Hey, one of the big differences between other guitars and some of my PRSes is the tarnishing that the Nickel plated hardware, esp. the pickup covers, is undergoing over time. I saw that tarnished hardware is mainly discussed as subject to be refurbished by polishing, and I thought the same way for a while, with some diappointment for having this ´issue´ with PRS guitars. However, I have to admit that I developed over time a more and more positive spin on this subject matter. Actually, other brands do extra relic jobs (I think more like NOS rather than the bashing and smashing treats to the woodwork) that you get with this naturally aged hardware ... for free, only by loving your fine instrument.

So, what do you think, afficionados?

Here are my tarnished PRS babes:

Rem: With regard to the track, Cissy Strut is IMHO iconic. I mixed the backing track from a -1-backing and the Letterman drum solo contest of some years ago. My goosebumps point is at 4:00 - 4:10min, when the chord is ringing out while doing some neckbending on the Modern Eagle II!

Nice tones! Love that song! Yeah, I've got a beat up old black McStandard with 5708's in it that looked pretty cool. I did polish all the hardware up the last time I set it up though. It may have looked cooler when the hardware was tarnished before the cleanup.

I like my stuff shiny, but I also think a little play wear and tarnishing are cool, and can add to the vibe.

I guess I'm too easy to please.

I have friends who get on my case because there's finger prints all over the place and dust under the strings. If any guitar I own fails to work because of tarnishing, dust or scratches I'll trade it in.

Sorry, just had to get that out there, it was bugging me.
