I've been considering switching the stoptail bridge that comes with my SE Singlecut 2007 model in favour of a more strat type hardtail fixed bridge such as this:

Is this a possibility for this type of guitar and if so, how will this affect the intonation?

Depending on where the 4 screw holes fall for the new bridge, you may need to remove the existing bridge threaded inserts from the body and fill the voids with wood plugs. It may also require refinishing in that area if you don't want to see the plugs. That whole procedure is not for the faint of heart.

As for intonation, provided you get the bridge positioned properly at the correct scale length, the adjustable saddles should let you intonate the guitar properly.

One unknown will be bridge height. If your replacement bridge is too short or high off the body, you may not be able to get the action adjusted properly.

If you do this, take lots of pictures, we love watching this kind of stuff!

The neck angel will likely be way too much for that low of a bridge which will probably cause the strings to bottom out on the upper frets.

Consider changing to a Schroeder Stoptail bridge. The intonation improves and they are fantastic for Palm muting. It`s also a 20 minute exchange with a change to Schroeder locking studs. I cannot recommend this mod highly enough. I have 3 single cuts done this way.

Thanks for the input! It seems like a risky procedure so I might just take the easy route and discard the strat type bridge idea. I'll check the Schroeder out but I've been also keeping an eye out for this Gotoh 510, a wraparound.

I've seen it on other PRS models with my type of stoptail bridge so I'm guessing the string height might not be an issue. Anyone got any experience with this one?

Not with the model you have pictured, but I've swapped to Tone Pros, the PRS adjustable, and a Schaller. I always go back to the original stoptail on my SE, and core singlecuts. It just feels right on those guitars. I do have Tone Pros locking studs on my 245. That's the only mod.
