Hi all....

I have a 25th Ann SAS with Nearfields. My favorite guitar....

I thought perhaps a SA Studio would be a nice compliment to it...

Are these the hardest guitars to find or what????

Did they make like, 5 of these things??

I can't find one anywhere

So, if there are any SA STUDIO owners out there---does the full humbucker in the bridge position make much of a difference than the NF?

Is it worth hunting one down, or should I just be happy with my SAS?

Opinions please!

Tony

I see them on ebay all the time. If I ever see one on Craigslist for a reasonable price im snatching it quick!
But yeah ebay, most of the time over priced if you ask me, but who knows.
Good luck!

I picked one up last year. I have not tried the SAS with NFs, but still do have my old original SAS.

I guess I am less excited than are some others about the NFs, but do think it more versatile than the older one. I suppose the right question is how happy you are with the bridge NF and whether it is worth it to get a similar guitar with a "heavier" bridge pup?

I had an original SAS, and think that McCarty neck pickup is one of the sexiest tones ever in that guitar. Sergio graciously donated a McCarty neck pup to me a few years ago, and it just doesn't have quIte the same magic in hog/maple bodied guitars (I've tried it in a few now). It sounds good in everything, but not as amazing as in Swamp Ash.

I've got a hog/maple Studio at home now. It's the only PRS I currently have with a thin neck (pattern thin). I love it, but it is a different beast. It can't do the Strat thing, with the exception of maybe a bit with the middle pup. The rest of the tones are too full to comp the SSS configuration. I love all the tones I get out of it (the 57/08 bridge sounds great tapped!), but I'm going to have to put a treble bleed into it. Rolled back, it loses the magic and sparkle, and I need that flexibility. I haven't opened the control cavity yet, so I don't know why it is so different. I'll get back to you on that.

So, buy a SA Studio. It should be awesome.

I have one, and I have a 25th Ann SASNF. I always thought the bridge of the SASNF was a touch thin when compared with the two early SAS's that I have. The bridge 57/08 is a good match, it fattens up the sound without losing the articulation of the narrowfields.

I have a 2012 Experience SAS in desert foil. LOVE the tones and balance of sounds in it!
