Hi all.

I purchased this beautiful 2012 PRS Stripped 58 10 Top a few years ago. It is to date the best guitar in my collection.

You will find more pictures in this gallery.

As you may know, this is the 'stripped down' version of the SC-58. I bought it from a serious Swiss online shop, and they sold it as a Stripped 58. However, I was surprise to notice the the PRS tag mentioned it was a SC-58.

I did not mind much until I found some guitars on reverb where the model name on the tag clearly stated that the guitar is a 'Stripped' version.

Because of the lack of fretboard binding and the headstock without the SC-58 rosewood veneer, I'm 90% confident it is actually a Stripped 58. Can a PRS expert confirm to me what model it is?

never mind I looked it up and yes tens and birds were an option.......

Indeed, both options were available.

You raise an interesting question, however. Were there any Ten Top SC-58? Many articles I found on the net describes them as having 'Artist-grade' tops.

Hard to tell from the pictures but my guess is that the birds are different. Strippers have birds like this where the above models have higher end birds

IIRC the SC-58 had a bound fretboard and the birds would have had abalone centers. I think the hang tag is incorrect.

Wouldn't the MODCAT show that info? Might check it here:

Not really, as the model (S8) is the same for both.

That burst is amazing! I'm really jealous. If it plays and sounds as good as it looks...
It does. The 2 57/08 pickups are fantastic.

That is also one one my findings after intense googling.

You're absolutely right. It's definitely a SC-58 (99.9% sure), and the online shop who sold it me deserves some respect for being honest.
Thank you all for your help.

You have a nicer guitar IMHO

Guys,
How does the Stopped 58 and 58 handle more modern rock and metal? Maybe a pickup change? I tend to prefer Alnico Magnets but I also love the Tremonti pickuos in my other guitars.
I have a PRS SC 250, 2001SC with Suhr Aldrich CE22 with Tremonti Bridge (thought about installing an Aldrich) and a Les Paul Standard with an Aldrich.
Looking at stripped 58 or SC245 or another SC250 or SC Trem as I hear the SC Trem has a thinner body.
I tried a Rio Grande BBQ pickup in my LP and when back to the Aldrich. I also tried a BBQ in my SC250 and when back to the SC250 pickup.

The 57/08s in the SC-58 and Stripped 58 are the older more vintage sounding versions. If you want a hotter 57/08 you could buy a new 4 wire set. They are a decent bit hotter. I have both versions and it is pretty easy to hear a difference in them. The version in these guitars is going to be lower output and a little brighter. If you want something hotter, you will probably need to swap them out.

There are a half dozen stripped 58's available out there now .. all with the 57/08's ...

My ‘011 Stripped 58 has no binding, dirty birds and 57/08’s….See avatar. It was sold to me as an SC58…it did not have the hang tag….When I got home with it from the store I happened to look outside at the left end butt of the hard case and there is a sticker from PRS that says Stripped 58. I was/am happy either way….. that guitar is incredible
