Strings

Went to Sam ash to pickup some strings dadario 9.5s they were out of stock so I picked up a pack of ghs big core strings,I never played ghs thought I would give them a try, I was pleasantly surprised these strings have a big tone and stay in tune very good anyone else using this particular string if so what do you think.

GHS Boomers, 10-46. I have tried everything. EVERYTHING. And they are the best I have used for tone, consistency and feel. (PRS disclaimer: I used PRS strings exclusively on my Mira for at least a year and they are great but I prefer the Boomers on it)

I use Daddario XL 10-46 for my standard tuned guitars and 10-52 on my drop tuned guitars (usually drop c# or c). I've tried out a few different ones and these give me a good balance of tone, feel, and durability. I used to just use Ernie Balls but I always had problems with broken strings.

D'addario *11-46
(*I use a set of tens and swap out an 11 on the top string for a little more tone, works wonders for me, and I can do jazz or rock with it.)

Ernie Ball Cobalt 10-46 on everything except my MM, for that it's the D'addario baritone strings since Ernie ball doesn't make cobalts for baritone guitars :-(

I really prefer Curt Mangan's 11-48 sets, but can't argue with the price and performance with D'Addario 11-49s at 1/2 the price per pack.

D'addario NYXL is my current choice in 10-46. They are lasting a LONG time, they sound good, they are good and springy even at a step and a half bend, they are available locally. I don't like the price on them.

PRS Strings or D'Addario Pure Nickel .010s on electric, and D'Addario 80/20 bronze Bluegrass set on acoustic.

I use D`Addario NYXL 10-52 on most of my solidbodies. Great strings, and the thicker lower strings balance out the sound in my ears so that the guitars are not midrange heavy.

For years now I've used Gibson Vintage Reissue 10-46 on all my electrics, but I will try Elixir Nanowebs 10-46 on my PRS Hollowbody next time.

Cobalt Super Slinky 9-42 on all the electrics
D'Addario EXP26 Phosphor Bronze, Custom Light, 11-52 on my SE Angelus Standard
Cobalt Hybrid Slinky 45-105 on my Kingfisher bass

D'Addario's '11's on the two stoptail McCarthys, '10's' on the CU22&CU24. Elixir Nanoweb Lights on the Taylor 814c & 555.
Why? Best price/performance, imho.

Ernie Ball Slinkeys 11 - 48 on my DGT and American Deluxe Strat. Ernie Ball slinkeys 10 - 46 on my Frankenstrat and Deluxe Gibbo.
For some reason the Ernie Balls feels to me as if there are less tension at standard pitch - a looser feel.

GHS Boomers on all electrics - 10-46 on 25" and under scales, 9-46 on 25.5".
D'Addario phosphor bronze 12s on acoustics.

D'Addario's XLs - have used them for years. I cannot remember the last time I broke one during a show or ever. I have tried all the brands and the XLs to me are unbeatable. I buy them in quantity because they get changed often.

I've never really had a big preference when it comes to strings other than I never cared much for D'Addarios for some reason. I used to like Dean Markleys but I haven't had any in years. (I remember somebody telling me a few years ago that they weren't making them anymore, but I never knew for sure.) I use Ernie Balls (the purple pack) or GHS Boomers because they're the easiest to find in my area. I've tried Elixirs before but I don't use them because they're out of my price range.

My big thing about strings is the gauge; I prefer 11's or 12's if I can find them.
