Strings leaning towards the top, not centered

Hey, the strings on my guitar are leaning more towards the top. They are not exactly in the centre of the fret board. There is very little space between the low e string and the top edge of the fret board & there is a fairly large amount of space between the high E string and the lower edge of the fret board. Is this normal? Does it have something to do with the way the guitar is setup or is the neck messed up?

Hi, could be lots of different things but it does sound unusual.

When you say "top edge" and "bottom edge," are you referring to things when in the playing position? At first I was thinking your bridge was not level, making the strings sit different heights, but when I reread it, it sounds different.

I had that problem on a McCarty once. Turned out it was the non-PRS bridge I put on it.

This sounds like a bolt-on neck.This problem you often see with Fender guitars.If its a bolt-on you can loosen the neckscrews alittle and center the neck itself under tension from the strings,use the strings as a centerguide.If it is a glued-in neck it is the bridge not centered properly.

^^^ Paul Schien (at WMC) called that the "Fender Chiropractic Adjustment..."

He didn't even bother to loosen the screws. He just gave the neck a slight tweak in the other direction. Good as new!

Its a PRS SE Fredrik Akesson signature model. I believe it is a glued-in neck. And I just noticed the bridge is not centered properly. Should I take it for a full setup? Would that fix the problem completely or should I just return the guitar. I tried uploading a picture in another post, it says it needs to get approved before other can see it.

It may sound weird but I actually like that on guitars - I've a couple with 4mM clearance for the high E and only 2mM for the low E. It means I have more space for vibrato and bends using my left hand. as long as it doesn't mess with the pups and how they pick up the tone I'm happy. Odd but true.

Are the slots in the nut all equally spaced? That will goof it up.
