String savers

I have them on my one trem-equipped guitar. They do seem to make the tuning more stable when you use the trem, which is why I put them on, and theoretically cut down string breakage (I haven't broken a string in probably 15 years, so this was not a consideration for me). They do change the sound of the guitar - seem to "smooth out" the tone a bit, making the sound just the smallest bit less dynamic, at least in my experience.

I have them on three of my guitars, they do help a bit to cut down on string breakage but they do also alter the tonality in the high frequencies. While I bought them to keep from breaking strings as often as I do, they also have an added benefit of taming the "new-string sound" if your preference leans away from that. My personal tastes are for strings that have a little bit of skin on 'em, but I'm required to change strings before every show due to my preference of heavy plectrums and my heavy hand.

If you're interested in trying them out for yourself check the used market, people who don't end up liking them practically give them away.
