I'm having trouble with the ground wire from the stop tail bridge breaking off from the solder joint as I reposition the pickguard to close up the guitar. I am new at this and am trying to learn. I am replacing the volume pots with core ones and thought the soldering went well. I am soldering the ground wire to the neck volume pot's case and the solder joint seems good -- the joint is not coming loose, rather the springy ground wire is snapping off at the joint. Any ideas what's going on here? Is my technique making it brittle? Is there a positioning technique that avoids the stress on it? What am I missing?

My first thought is to insert some stranded wire from the pot to the ground wire so it can more easily make the bend. But I'd rather learn to do it right.

Thanks for any help.
