Hi Guys,

Wonder if you can help with an issue with my PRS S2 Custom 22

I've had a problem of string buzz on the top two strings. At first I could just notice it on the top E string. I could hear some strange harmonic overtones when playing the string both fretted and open.

Took it to one guitar tech who didn't manage to get rid of it.

The next tech told me there was some slight twist in the neck and ran the guitar through his PLEK machine to help level the frets.

The guitar played fine for a while and has now returned. For some reason I suspected it may have something to do with the tremolo bridge and I bought a replacement from MannMade.

Still no joy. The neck relief is good across all strings and the action is set to medium.

The problem is particularly noticeable nearer the headstock.

If anyone can share any thoughts as to how I might remedy this I be grateful.

Cheers
Sean

The shop where I bought it were in denial when I first took it to them but I would like to know more about the Limited Lifetime Warranty and how a PLEK setup would kill it. I'd have thought if anything caused a problem with the warranty it would have been the replacement bridge (despite John Mann's relationship with PRS)

PLEK physically alters your guitar away from spec in a non-reversible way.

To me it sounds like your nut slots are a bit to low and your guitar may need a bit more relief very small adjustments do wonders if all else fails do contact PTC they are great to work with and from my experience will do everything possible to set your guitar straight ( in or out of warranty )

Thanks guys.

I did think the pickups might be the issue and lowered them and ran some test and it wasn't that. I had considered the nut being an issue but that wouldn't account for the fretted notes buzzing.

I'll drop a capo on the first fret and eye down each string to check the frets but I'm pretty sure that the PLEK took care of that issue, unless of course the neck wood has moved again since that setup.

It's driving me nuts. This is the first guitar I've been 'completely' comfortable with. I did buy it as soon as it hit the shops so it was fresh off the production line and I guess there is a possibility of wood movement.

Thanks for the advice on the PTC but it looks as if I'm not covered here in Spain.
