My nerves were shot but I am halfway home. Taking a break and posting here. There's 22 photos already in the album . These are only from the rear strap button area. Taking the request from a member here, I took photos to document this project .

For those who didn't see my NGD thread , here is my 2005 20th CU22. Bought it used and the strap buttons were removed and replaced with some serious course thread ,hex head wood bolts.

I removed the bolts and decided to drill out the holes even bigger (yikes) and plug with an Oak dowel , glue in then redrill a pilot for the normal schaller strap lock.

Picked up a stick of 3/8's oak dowel , titebond II, and some masking tape. Time to get started.

Watched a youtube video and it suggested running drill backwards to start with to protect the laquer finish from flaking or lifting. So I did. Then drilled in. My drill bit depth gauge/stopper was giving me fits. So I opted for tape.

Taped off the area around it for damage control : (feels like surgery)

Here goes nothin! I'm not a wood worker in the least. Never done anything like this. Flying by the seat of my pants with a little help from reading forums and YouTube. Started same size has original hole and worked up .

first hole : now to step up .

Made it to the big boy! The final 3/8's hole. Dowel fits snug(ish) lets glue it and see!

sure hope it works! Letting it sit for a while before I go any further with cleaning it up . It's not flush as originally intended I may tape it back off and try to file it. Or just drill it for strap locks as is.

Will post more pictures in the album's link here:

Neck horn done. It didn't turn out as good, the finish had a large ding in it before I started and it flaked on me! Boo!!!! Tried to salvage it . Here's the pics. This one here is a just a hair under being flush but it wedged in. I'm hoping it'll work out fine.

Original hole from bolt :

drilled, glue and plugged:

Today is strap lock install day! Still not messing with it until this afternoon. Going to drop some superglue around the hole to save the finish any further flake , and going to go pick up a scrap of felt from the hobby shop. A big enough piece will hide the repair!

Stew Mac sells both clear and a red that should be close a bit of light sanding you will have it looking GREAT
Nice job
The stock PRS strap buttons are pretty large they would cover most of that also

picked these up at tractor supply . Finish washers. Going to see how they look with the strap
buttons. May me too much, may not be. Guess we will find out when I get home!

Finished! I x'd the finish washers. Was just too much going on ! Opted for original plan of felt backing.

Always looking for an excuse to buy more tools! Picked up these files $10!

Re-taped, for finish protection . Attempting to file it flush .

As close as I care to get!

Finally in there! Man I was so nervous it wouldn't work out, then what the heck would I do!?

My lovely assistant!

Next to strat with schallers :

Pardon my ugly mug! Yes. I wear camo everyday :-)
