We played a new to us club saturday night. We ran through 3 songs after setup and I thought my tone was a little off but I was sure I could tweak it a bit once we got under way.

The club had filled up a bit when we started and my tone was just awful. I know there were guitarists in the crowd and I was really embarrassed. It was so bad that I was certian there was something wrong. After scooping most of the mids out it was better.

I had never experienced that extreme before. It actually pissed me off to the point that I didn't enjoy the gig.

Sometimes I get overconfident about how things will be and rush through setup. Lesson learned.

As DGh has often said: "dial in the tone stack to a more musical space".

I'm jealous that you got to run through 3 songs, but i totally get where your head went. I tend to over-analyze and obsess about one wrong note rather than on all the parts that were great. Hang in there and boost the mids next time.

I'll bet you're the only one who wasn't happy with your tone.
+1

I do jazz sit-ins with a few various combos around SF and have to do my soundcheck during the first song, but I know from my rocker days that getting your tone down before the gig is really important. All I know is that too many times I feel sloppy Joe on the fretboard and find that listeners along with fellow musicians say it sounds great. So don't be too hard on yourself during the gig, enjoy kicking butt onstage.

We are a cover band. We have a really cool outdoor gig this Saturday night. Rock n row adventures in Eldora Iowa. People are taken up river about 8 miles and they tube and drink back down to campground where they are greeted with great food cold beer and live music. My old band played this gig a couple times. As long as weather is good it will be fun.
