What’s up guys?! Been several crazy months. Just wanted to stop in and say hello, and update everyone on the Ginger Goddess’ cancer situation.

We drove up the first of July to go to the Mayo Clinic. After numerous tests, we are still at square one. The type of cancer she has, is called Neuroendocrine Tumors or N.E.T. For short. Thankfully, it is a slow growing type of malignant tumors that are known to primarily show up in the pancreas, digestive tract and or stomach. Hers is the type that has kind of parked just next to the head of the pancreas. However, they removed the tumor last September to only find out it had reoccurred in the same place. Not to mention the “simple hernia repair” turned into a nightmare because the surgeon accidentally cut her Vargas nerve, causing Gastroparisis or a paralyzed stomach. The damage is permanent. No known treatment at this time so it’s been a double whammy.

Anyway, I know I talk to a lot of you guys on IG, but for the rest of you guys, I just wanted to keep you posted.

To say we are frustrated, worn out and just kinda broken at this point is a gross understatement. But we both have no choice but than to fight to get her the treatment she needs. But honestly, it’s been brutal, I.e. we found out yesterday her doctor at Mayo wants to run a battery of new blood tests, so he and his team can determine the best treatment options available, and now her BCBS Insurance is refusing to pay for the tests to the tune of about $4K (or about the price of a nice used DGT lol) Gotta love privatized health care!

Anyhoo, I just wanted to touch base with all of you guys, and let you know what we’ve been dealing with. And also, a BIG thanks to all of you that helped out. You know who you are! Trust me when I say, words can’t describe how much the GG and I appreciate it.

Sorry for the novel but, I miss you guys and hope soon she’ll be better so we can get back to some semblance of a normal life. Thanks again to all you guys for reaching out, sending positive thoughts and vibes to both of us.

With much love and humble gratitude,
Scott and Michelle (the GG) ❤️

Amen .. This Life is WAY too much Fun to leave . I could barely stand up yesterday , slept most the day , med'd up and hosted last nights show and played a set . One friend asked me " are you sad ? , I said no ..just in pain" Thank the benevolent dieties of the Universe for every day left .

my prayers are with you .

I had the insurance turn down the MRI for my cancer ..my doc couldn't convince them ... I gave up on both .
I’m sorry to hear this. yeah these insurance companies are like, big pharma, big oil, etc. To think they are willing to derail her path to the proper treatment is no less than infuriating. Hang in there too my friend.

Insurance companies are considered by many to be the wealthiest corporations in the world and there is a reason for that! They get permission from the a$$hats in our governments to rape us for life, and we have us pay for for that abuse (until they decide they aren't getting enough money to rape us any more, then the hospitals and doctors rape us direct)!! It is a sick state of affairs in the medical world and I both sympathize and empathize with your current situation ;~(( Best wishes to the GG in her battle, may her victory march across our timeline soon!!! Thanks for checking in ;~))

Yeah man it blows. It’s stressful enough as it is. Without having to fight the insurance company at the same time you’re trying to fight to stay alive. It’s just like big pharma, big oil, big whatever. I get it, in order to stay in business you have to make a decent margin to stay a float. But, come on man! This is a potentially life saving/changing test. It’s almost as if they are trying to kill people off once the P&L is published. That and the lack of urgency is mind boggling.

We had been using UAB Hospital back close to my hometown in Birmingham. We end up having to deal with kids (literally kids) while the surgeon or staff is doing whatever we get stuck with a fresh faced straight up outta medical school resident. At one point UAB was considered one of the best in the country. I mean they saved my arm and kinda fixed my back and hip after my crash. Like so many things these days, people do NOT take pride in their work anymore apparently.

Hence the reason we bailed and made the trip to the Mayo Clinic. So far so good, we have an oncologist that is appealing the BCBS denial of the blood panel. So we feel like they are actually in our corner, which makes us feel a bit better about the whole situation. Just waiting for what’s next now. We know we’ll be going back up to Minnesota in January for another PET. But, back to your point. Yeah it really sucks that one or two people can deny what could be life saving information. But again, we have a fiery oncologist that’s not okay with BCBS at the moment. But we are still in the game. So there is that.

Oh man, so sorry you and Michelle are going through this.

The medical insurance runaround, on top of the medical issues...man. What can a person say other than 'we're with you'! Because that's the truth.

Hey Scott. I don't really know you, and have always enjoyed your posts, even this for the update but not the scenario.

I can't say more than others have already. My wife is a Gastro nurse and she constantly fights insurance companies and wins! It sounds like they are doing this which is a great sign.

Don't let up, I admire your (both of you) courage to not give up, and maybe the back doctor should do something for making a serious mistake.

God luck and good speed!

Thank you so much my friend.

Yeah the insurance game is one that they play from a better vantage point than the consumer. Yeah, it seems as if they come at you from every angle.

Good news is I’ve finally found an attorney to represent her on the badly botched hernia surgery. We literally grew up together. He’s a really sharp guy and apparently he’s been to battle with UAB hospital and he has a reputation for winning against them. He’s strictly dealing with the gastroparisis caused by the botched hernia surgery, prior to the surgery to remove the tumor, she had a couple of months later.

So as you can see it’s been a tough fight for me, just to hold some of the parties responsible for it. But, I do not mind at all, because it’s ALL for her! I just want her to be able to fight the cancer and take some solace knowing I’m fighting right along side of her, just in a different but necessary way.

Thanks again for the well wishes, they mean more than you could ever know 🙌

Man that is a very kind thing of you to say. I miss you guys. I’ve gotta start making some time to get back on here. It’s always been a place where I can come have and hopefully cause a few laughs. Trust me when I say it’s been my happy place since back in September of ‘17 when I got my first PRS.

Her doctors at Mayo are appealing BCBS’s decision to decline paying for the blood panel. Anybody that knows me knows I’m a scrapper so I’m putting all my energy into getting them to approve it.

Thank you again for the kind words. They mean so much!🙌
