Hey everyone,
It’s been awhile since I posted here but this is my go to place when I need opinions on anything PRS. I have a PRS se 30 head that I was running through an Ampeg 4x12 loaded with greenbacks. I have moved the family and had to sell the 4x12 (I still have the greenbacks) since we are in an apartment while our new house is being built. I have been wanting to get a nice PRS cab to go with the amp and found what I think is a good deal on a 2x12 open back stealth cab. Just looking for peoples opinions on how they sound and if it would be a good match with the se30?

Thanks everyone in advance

I have two 2x12 PRS cabs, one the closed-back Big Mouth, a deep 2x12, and the other the David Grissom 2x12 with ports. I’ve also had the Stealth 1x12 closed back. I love all of these cabs.

One of the best things about the Stealth cabs is their finger-jointed, all-pine construction. That’s pretty unusual these days, and it gives the cabs a warm, vintage sound that helps offset the peakiness of V30s. The pine also makes them very light weight.

On the other hand, I have no idea how the Greenbacks would sound in one. I haven’t tried the open back Stealth cab.

Thanks LS,
I probably am wrong in saying it is a stealth cab. As the one I’m looking at is made from birch plywood not pine.

Is it one of the SE cabs? I haven’t run into too many 2x12 open back cabs from PRS. Personally, greenbacks shine most in a closed back cab, but in a low volume environment like an apartment, I doubt you’d push them hard enough to notice a difference.

“Stealth” usually referred to the black color.

After doing some more checking, I found that it is one of the newer cabs that is listed on the website. While it is made in China it does not say SE but I would assume it would be in the same family as one. It does have two Celestion V-type speakers. I wouldn’t use it in the apartment, it will be in storage with the rest of my gear till the new house (and my music room) is finished. I would probably keep the V-type in and save the greenbacks for another 2x12 for my Marshall class 5.

I have a PRS 2x12 open back, and had an SE30 head, unfortunately I didn’t have them at the same time, but man do I wish I’d had the chance to pair them up!

Open back cabs have a different “flavor” than closed back, they’re less focused and thumpy, and can open up an amp in a different way. The SE30 has ample bass, which the open cab will tame, something I think I would’ve liked. And I wouldn’t be in a big rush to put those greenbacks in, if the cab has V30’s, although I sometimes fight with them in closed backs, they sound nice in open cabs.

I agree, the SE 30 does have a lot of low end to it. It had a lot of thump to it with the close back 4x12 loaded with the Green backs. Think I’ll pull the trigger on the 2x12. I have yet to be disappointed by any PRS so why not.

The Big Mouth cabs, that PRS doesn’t make any more, are birch ply. I have one, and it’s terrific sounding. It’s similar to the familiar Mesa Recto cab in dimensions, but I think it’s a little more open sounding.

I haven’t tried one of the cabs made overseas.

Well it’s on the way. I’ll give everyone a sound report on the over seas open back cabs with an SE30 head.......in...about 7 months:(:(. I hate not having my gear.
