Oddly enough, Mumford High School in Detroit was the very Mumford High School whose T-shirt was worn by the Eddie Murphy character in Beverly Hills Cop, and where my wife went to high school. It was our neighborhood high school, though I went to a downtown high school that was a "magnet school" called Cass Tech.

The exterior of the building was painted powder blue, with maroon trim. It was the ugliest of buildings. And it was torn down this year.

So I can't see the word Mumford and not think only of that school!
