so… I’m wondering when PRS started putting SS frets on guitars.

I bought a used (2012) DGT recently and it needed some fret work. My guy tells me it has stainless on it. just curious if it came that way or was re-fretted. It’s in excellent condition for twelve years old.

PS; I did search for this. Oddly, I got better results via google.

To the best of my knowledge, SS frets on a PRS are pretty rare. I know the Joe Walsh signature model that came out in I think 2022 had them, and there are various Private Stocks that have them, but those are the exceptions I am aware of. I am sure there are others. I have heard the reasons are 1. SS frets wear down the production tools much more quickly and 2. Paul does not think they sound as good on the PRS guitars.

The only production guitar was the JW 594.
Maybe some PS axes as well.

It’s Victor Guitar, a long time luthier in Denver, Colorado. They refused to do stainless years ago when I had a ‘73 Les Paul Deluxe refretted. They’ve since adopted SS. Eight guys behind the counter working instruments and a bustling counter at 2 pm on a Tuesday.

It’s plinky with medium action. The lower six to eight frets are a bit high.

Put some SS on a 92 CE24. Felt and sounded great. Sold it to fund a new axe.

Kind of the same story as yours. Refret.
