Wood Library McCarty, that is...thanks to Jack Gretz @ Northeast Music Center for a great deal, amazing service, a perfect setup, and, oh yeah...one hell of a Wood Library build. And a nod out to both Les and Lesteban for pointing my GAS in this direction a short time back. Had a good run on Reverb (5+) so brought her home much sooner than expected.
Before the obligatory beauty shots, I must say that this is one magical beast. Jack told me, "Carl, you can't shut this thing up" and he was spot-on. This is an incredibly resonant guitar - it reminds me of my Knaggs Keya (with Joe's uber-cool stoptail design) in that it rings and has overtones almost like an acoustic. Jack spec'd the Paul's Guitar stoptail with the brass inserts on this run of 12, and I gotta figure that has something to do with it to.
This is my first foray into 58/15-land, and I can see why these are becoming the standard pickups on many more of the 2016s. Amazing clarity, with alot of depth and warmth at the same time. With the maple neck, I was expecting her to be on the bright side - she certainly has her own midrange thing going on, but this is one incredibly balanced and musical instrument. I can also vouch for how well the 58/15s split, and I am extremely 408-spoiled.
OK, so on to the top. I rarely have so much lust at first sight, but when I first saw this beauty online, she was already sold in my head. To me, the top looks like the most perfect old-school Les Paul hunk-o-wood ever, brought to life with the burst. There is so much going on in the top, it's deceptive. I absolutely love it, and it's absolutely the color it needs to be. And unlike some tops which just look great head-on, the view from the drivers' seat is one of her best sides.
OK, enough. Guitar porn followeth:
All that AND a Black Paisley case...
Gonna go play...louder than I should for a townhouse dweller as evening drags on...
