I actually spec'd a private stock for the first time recently (did not buy it).

Basically it's a Custom 24-08 special semi hollow with a BRW board in Duvall red.

That works for me. Paisley case though - curved, not rectangular

I only spec’d one PS, and luckily I used a tried-and-true recipe, so I knew what I was getting myself into, and besides, Paul Smith helped pick the woods!

My other PS and Core models have been runs that Paul Smith spec’d. I know zilch about guitar making. His job is to design and build ‘em, my job is to buy and play ‘em.

It works out really well. But I sure admire the guts of those of you who are willing to drop five figure money on your own designs! Out of my league for sure.

I have a lot of ideas, that's why I have never actually pulled the trigger. I find that I can usually be satisfied with a basic model that has been upgraded to an Artist Package, 10 top, or WL.

    Body shape: Custom
    Body construction: Solid
Body wood: (Meh, how about something different...) Alder back, Figured Redwood top
    Finish: Natural
    Body binding: Ivory
Neck shape: What ever 'Wide/Fat' is these days
    Neck wood: Mahogany
    Fretboard: Dark Rosewood
    Headstock shape: Standard
    Headstock veneer: Match Body
    Neck binding: Ivory
    Inlays: None
Headstock inlay: large inlaid pearl signature
    Truss rod cover: NONE
    Frets: Standard
    Fretboard radius: 10”
    Scale length: 25"
    Number of frets: 22
    Nut width: Standard
    Tuners: McCarty vintage
    Nut material: Standard
    Bridge: One-piece wraparound
    Neck pickup: 57/08 brushed
    Bridge pickup: 57/08 brushed
    Volume: Master
    Tone: Master
    Push/pull: NO
    Switch: 5-way blade
    Strings: .09's
    Case: Paisley

I would want the control layout to match my Dustie Waring CE24. I have a couple of CU22s with the 5-way blade, and I like the DW layout better. It's more "natural" for me having come from Jackson prior to PRS.

What is it about PRS guitars in Antique White that just look so elegant, simple, and beautiful?

There’s a white Santana 25th Anniversary that’s been up on Reverb but the guy won’t budge under $3500. A white DGT going for $2200 was gone in like two weeks. Gorgeous!

Not much of a metal guy and haven’t been able to play one in person but people keep mentioning the Dustie Waring control layout. Educate me please!

    Here is a comparison between a DW CE24 control layout and a CU22 w/ 5-way blade layout.
