So, this is kind of a NGD post, but it's not a PRS, so no names and no pics (but I'll give you a hint - it's kind of a bumblebee thing from a sequel), but it made me thing about guitars in general, and the SEs and S2s in particular.

We tend to show a lot of reverence for our guitars - and for good reason - but sometimes, sometimes...you just gotta have one that isn't that do-it-all, cover-every-base, get-any-tone-you-can-think-of thing. Sometimes you need one that you can just plug in and beat on - not necessarily abuse, but one that you're not tweaking and adjusting. Just a dead-simple rock beast. And that's what this is - one knob, one pickup.

I'm under no illusion that it's the top of the line from that company, or that it's the greatest guitar ever, or that it would be the one I kept if I had to keep only one. But it's fun, it plays great and sounds kicka$$.

And that's what the SE/S2 lines hit me as today (tom'w may be different, of course!). I have no illusions that they're on par with the PS behemoths, but they're a lot of fun to play.

Sometimes, you just have to say WTF and let 'er rip!

If you had a guitar that could cover every base and get any tone you could think of, you'd never need more than one guitar in the first place.

Except to have different ones to go with your many costumes. :)

Sometimes it's nice to have a 1 trick pony that does that thing well.

Got to spend a little time w/it tonight before I tried installing the new virtual synth I picked up. Learned two things.

1. This is a fun guitar.

2. Guitars > virtual synths. Especially synths that won't install.

One great guitar is all that you ever need for your whole life. Said no guitarist ever!

Right, you got the tone in your mind nailed. But you need one to give you that singlecoil sparkle that you can't get with a coil split...And then you need another one with a pointy headstock to go with your snakeskin spandex!

Sort of like a Marshall JCM800 I used to own. One trick, and one trick only, but it did that trick so well I kept it around for 12 years.
