Longest, 2009 SC245

Just got my Private Stock SC245 Sandstorm Crossfade

My love for over the top looks hasnt changed. I did equip the Private Stock with a 57/08 in the neck and a 59/09 in the bridge and went with a maple neck. Tons of clarity and bite where the Grabber Blue SC245 is a bit beefier in tone, Ive always used it for my hard rock band.

I'm embarrassed to say that this is the one I've had the longest among what's remained in my studio, because I've been playing PRS since 1991, and this is a 2011 model; there are others I've owned that I wish I'd been able to hang onto. This is an Artist V:



This is the newest, though it's an acoustic:



I doubt my tastes have changed much over the years, it's more that they've expanded to include both classic sounds, and new designs like the 408s. Do I think that PRS is making more models today that pique my interest? Absolutely.

Well I have four PRS's, but they are all not very old.
The very first PRS I bought last summer was the 2012 SE Santana.
Got it not too long after I got my 2012 Gibson SG '61 Reissue.
I thought I was good with just the SG and the small Fernandez guitar, but nooooooooooooo, gas hits hard, and I had to have another guitar.
The Santana was my introduction to PRS.
It also showed me that it was just as well built as the Gibson, but at 1/3rd the cost!

Then came the 2012 SE Custom 24 and the 2012 SE Tremonti Custom, but those are not the newest.
One more, a Maryland built PRS finally.
2013 408 MT which I have had since May 24th.

This is such a sweet sounding and well playing guitar.
Sure it will not be my last PRS guitar I buy either.

I don't think my tastes have changed much. It seems I've been more of a vintage guy for quite some time now. I actually added two DGT's to my collection this year. The neck is incredible on the DGT I think. I've never played such an easy neck! It feels so natural to move around. I don't fight it at all. I actually had ordered a CU22 instead of the DGT initially. Once I found out that the DGT was a hot-rodded McCarty I had to have it! So back went the CU. Man am I happy I did that exchange! Nothing against the CU at all, I just like the weight, feel and tone of the DGT.

With the recent addition of my HXDA I'm finally finding the tones I've been looking for! The DGT pairs exceptionally well with the HXDA (as evidenced in Grissom's youtube vid at namm 2013). The McCarty is at the PTC at the moment and so I haven't had a chance to try her with the new amp yet. However, I'm confident it'll be sonic bliss as well.

Those of you who post 2, tell us how your tastes have changed - if at all. Do the two guitars illustrate the evolution?

The PRS I've had the longest in this `90 LE. I bought it from BluesRanger (Rick Reed) around 2005. I haven't seen or heard from him in over 3 years and fear he has passed away. If anyone has spoken with him recently, please let me know he's okay.

But I have since come to terms with the fact that I'm a 22 fret kinda guy who prefers single-coil or narrowfield pups in the neck position.

If this DC22, my newest PRS, had a 4-conductor 53/10 in the neck position (so I could get a pure single-coil from it) then it would be very hard to beat. It's currently in my top 3. I still prefer prefer bursts.

Those of you who post 2, tell us how your tastes have changed - if at all. Do the two guitars illustrate the evolution?

One thing that has affected my tastes dramatically is the switch to the HXDA amplifier from 6L6 amps like the Two Rocks and Mesas I've usually played in the past.

With the other amps, I preferred to use coil splits, or P-90s, and rarely went full-on humbucker unless that was truly called for in a track. Since the HXDA, I've found the full humbucker sounds more compatible with what's in my head, so I'm more attuned to achieving thicker sounds as a result.

I kind of lucked out with the Artist V, because what I originally liked about it with the prior amps was the splits, etc. Now I'm all about its classic humbucker sounds. They're pretty juicy!

One great thing about both the PRS electrics I play (Artist V and Sig Ltd) is that the 'buckers are excellent. As time goes on, I imagine that I'll be concentrating more on getting variety from various humbucker equipped models, instead of branching out to more single coil models. I do love the 5x/0x series of pickups, so that isn't going to be a problem.

I don't relate well to the HFS or Vintage Bass pickups, but thankfully, the ones I like are still available.

EDIT: to answer taste changing question: My taste hasn't really changed, but 20 years ago I wasn't willing to spend the money on a custom build - mortgage and kids education came first.
