I'm always amazed at the talent some folks on here have when it comes to upgrading guitars. There are numerous threads where a guitar has been completely transformed. This is not that type of thread. I lack both the skill and patience to undertake a major project. That being said, I've been inspired by some here to make to make a pretty incredible guitar even better for me.

The big change is the tuners. The reality is I prefer locking tuners due to ease of string changes. Vintage style tuners look cool but that's where the love ends for me. Here's a before & after pic.

The other change is strictly cosmetic. I decided this guitar needed amber lampshades.

Absolutely stunning! Much better with the lampshades! They are more appealing to me too. I just can't get into the speed knobs...

Amazing what a pair of knobs can do to the appearance...;)

It's interesting how such a little detail can make a big difference. Speaking of details the new tuner buttons are just a little different color and I'm not sure if they look right.

I'm in the same boat as you with respect to both tuners (because I'm lazy), and lampshades. Good upgrades on an over the top guitar!

Nice upgrades!!! The vintage buttons with locking tuners is something I haven't seen but maybe a couple of times, nice touch. The lampshades also look great....I always thought the lampshades were a touch classier than the speed knobs. Well done!!!

Really, thanks for posting. Something has always bugged me about my DGT artist (Boyd's Burst) with lampshades and my 2008 CU22 AP with speed knobs (Santana Yellow with an ebony board). The lampshades were too dark on my DGT (avatar) and the speed knobs too light on the CU22. I swapped them out today and lunch and wow----major improvement. I also like the feel of each knob type better on each guitar.

I put the locking vintage tuners on my Mccarty. They rock!

They really are a great upgrade and were a direct replacement. I don’t think I’ll be making anymore major changes now. Pretty happy with the guitar.
