I got my eyes on my first PRS SE guitar for a few months now.

I thought my best buy would be the PRS SE Custom 24-08 because of the TCI pickups having a better single-coil sound, and overall better sound compared to the regular Custom 24.
But I'm a bit picky about colors. I find the current green and orange one quite ugly. I was hoping they would release new colors today. If they weren't, I would just go with the regular PRS SE Custom black gold burst.
They updated the website and we didn't get any new colors.

But now they got the SE standard 24-08 with TCI pickups. This makes the choice more difficult. Does the maple top make a lot of difference in sound? I'm selling my Gibson SG standard 2013 with 57 classics to buy a more all-round guitar, with single coil options and a better clean sound so I'm a bit hesitant in going full mahogany again....

What's the difference between the 2022 SE Standard 24-08 and the 2021 SE Custom 24-08?

SE-Custom 24-08 has a maple top, just like the other customs. Standard is all mahogany.
They changed the specs on the pickups though, very strange. They used to be TCI, but now they are 85/15s again.

I like the more solid and full high end that a maple top gives you. For solos as well as rhythm playing…I’ve owned a number of SG’s, LP Specials, SE mahogany’s ect over the years and I always sold them….there was always something missing in the highs, and I don’t like a lot of high end, just enough…
