Silver Sky in a mix?

Nope. Been playing over twenty years and owned over a hundred electric guitars including easily a dozen SSS guitars. Fender USA, Japan, Mexico, Fernandes Japan, etc.

The SS is far and away the thinnest sounding I’ve ever played, in every position but position 1

I haven’t played one. So you can blow this answer off completely if you’d like. There are thousands of these sold and huge threads here and at TGP about the SS. You are THE VERY FIRST person ever to say this. So... congrats on that, I suppose... o_O

Maybe I missed it, but what are you playing it through?

You’ve read every post that’s amazing!

My question is who has played one in a mix and does its excessive brightness and lack of bass makes sense there.

Thank you! I have read every post and despite your question, you are still the only person on the planets Earth or Uranus, that has said that that you’ve many single coil guitars and the SS is the “far and away the thinnest sounding you’ve ever played.”

In fact, most love the pickups and none even called them thin. This doesn’t mean you are wrong. It means something may be wrong with your guitar. I’d have it checked out and if the dealer says it’s OK, then you might want to have some other things checked.

right. Either my two decades + of experience are worthless or this is just the puniest sounding S-type guitar imaginable. Again, the subject of my post is Have you played one in a mix? Do you have direct personal experience to speak to that?

Sorry, don’t need it. There are MANY samples available online to prove that this is not the case. Nothing do with with your years experience or mine. Or whether I’ve played one in a mix. There are MANY MANY samples of SS tones online. For a single coil guitar, they are NOT thin, much less puny.

When you say something that contradicts everything ever said or posted about them, and every tone online, I stand by my statement. Either something is wrong with yours, or the issue lies elsewhere.

Did OP perhaps buy a used model where someone previously tinkered with it?

I just got one on Saturday and played it through a Yamaha THR10c for a minute to make sure it was properly functioning (before putting by the tree, so no experience in a mix yet) and I immediately noticed how big, fat, warm, round, and non-thin it sounded, particularly compared to other similar F-designs.

If new, I’d think it’s a pickup or pots issue. Try taking a reading and/or adjusting pickup height. Good luck.
