Okay... now that a bunch of you have picked up some HXDA's and you are enjoying them... let's see them all in one place. That awesome "Purple Haze" setup made me do this. :)

Here is mine, fresh back from the factory with a couple of mods. Running it through an Avatar 4x12 loaded with Scumback BM75s.

I've been thinking of trying a 1x12 cab to see if its any different sonically... I really liked the Blackstar Artisian 212 I demo'd the head on when I first tried it... it was really sweet sounding as well.

I've got a 112 with a different scumback, a large dust cap BM75, which has less highs but I can't tell much of a difference with this amp vs others when it comes to different sized cabs. I'm hoping to try it out with my v30 loaded 4x12 this weekend.

Loop, Series\Parallel input switch, and Fat Switch. I really dig the series parallel switch, gives it more gain, about as much as an 800 but it's been a while since I played that exact amp. The mod helps thicken up the tone at lower volumes which is what I was hoping for. It also changes the reaction of the 2 pre gain knobs when they are in series but I need to log more time with it to get dialed in perfectly. It obviously changes the responsiveness of the amp but I'd compare it what you'd get with a tube screamer or similar OD in front of it in stock form. The Fat switch is also great. I don't see myself ever turning it off, at least in HX mode. It cuts more treble than the DA tone stack switch. With my rig it was just way too bright in that mode without it.

I have higher gain tones covered with my other amps so this one fills the void of a slightly dirty M-style tone that works good with pedals at lower gain levels. It's nice to have the additional bells and whistles on it so it can also do moderate gain levels for hard rock stuff if needed without a pedal. I'm not specifically chasing either HX or DA, but its cool to have those tones if I want them.

Interesting mods! You've piqued my interest; what's the rest of your rig? What are you running into the loop?

And are you able to retrieve the original sound of the amp when you want to?

I'm mostly running this into a 4x12 loaded with Scumback (BlackBack) BM75s. They are brighter than regular greenbacks with a little more upper mid push and tighter bottom end. I love them with just about everything but the tend to add too much high end to this amp in particular. Most of my guitars are loaded pickups on the brighter side, 59/09s, 408s or Lollartrons. Anyhow, that's why i got the fat switch added.

I'm running 3 TC Electronics pedals in the loop, Reverb, Chorus, Flanger. and a Digitech Hardwire Delay. All of these are stereo so I'm sharing the with the loop of my Boger Uberschall. I mostly only keep the verb and maybe the delay on.

For the most part, yes, the fat and series/parallel mods can all be switched off returning to the stock sound. The loop when disengaged sounds pretty much the same to me as it did before. It does tend to dull the gain and volume a lot when it's engaged and the loop levels are not maxed out. Most other amps with effect loop levels tend to not be as drastic but I assume that's because of how the HX/DA gets a lot of its gain from the power section and with the level backed off you're choking that down. With the levels cranked, it sounds great through those pedal. I haven't tried it with any rackmount stuff as I currently don't own anything.
 
Cool, Yankee. Sounds like a pretty complex rig.

I run everything old-school, into the front of the amp. I've had a lot of amps with effects loops, but for some reason I like what happens with my pedals in front.

I run the HXDA into a Mesa 2x12 Recto cab, standard V-30s. I mainly run guitar into a Fulltone Clyde Deluxe >> Fulltone '69 >> Eventide ModFactor >> HXDA.

I was using a TC Nova Delay that sounded great, but with the gain cranked running into the front of the amp the unit's hiss was exaggerated, so I'm ordering an Eventide TimeFactor that is a little quieter. It also does a few more things. I am also in the process of replacing a Fulltone Mini Deja Vibe with the new one with the rocker pedal. Seems like I'm never done screwing around with this pedal stuff!

Pretty much. I haven't messed with it in DA mode (any switch) since I got it back with the fat switch. I'll try that out and let you know. I'd assume it would be a little too dark sounding with the DA tone stack at least.
