Shoulder Surgery Yesterday

Had to have shoulder surgery yesterday for a significant AC joint separation. Tore all the connecting ligaments in a nasty mountain bike crash a few months ago - unfortunately, did not heal on its own, even with PT. Right arm is completely immobilized, so guitar playing is out of the question for quite some time. Yes, this sucks but hopefully will be back in action before long. In addition to a couple of titanium plates in my shoulder, they use a donor ligament to reattach everything. I should’ve asked ahead of time if the dear departed, who so kindly gave me his or her ligament, was a good guitar player. I could use all the help that I can get. :)

Thankful for speech to text, otherwise this post would’ve taken me about an hour or two tap out with my left thumb!
Praying for a speedy and complete recovery. From personal experience (two shoulder replacements) I offer this: Put extra effort into the therapy. Yup, it’s gonna hurt, but make it happen. And as soon as your doctor allows, include guitar playing in your therapy.

Kate just had her second complete knee replacement surgery. Good thing we only have two legs. Up every three hours to give her the pain meds. She's doing great in spite of the pain.

What is it with joints and getting old (or falling off mountain bikes!)?

Hope your recovery goes well.

Best of luck to you....and don't skip your rehab!

After 2 rotator cuff surgeries I had a full reverse replacement 5 weeks ago on my right shoulder. Started rehab two weeks ago and they're taking it slow but I know the drill all too well. Good news is I started back playing for a little bit everyday without pain. Hoping to be back on the golf course by April 1st!!

Same. My reverse was nothing short of miraculous. Yes, sleeping sitting up for six weeks post-surgery sucks massively, but I had a great PT facility/experience and it feels better than ever! Best of luck to you, and remember: do EXACTLY what your PT tells you to and NOTHING MORE than what they tell you. BTW, I can once again comfortably play my D-28 (which I couldn’t reach around to strum pre-reverse).
