Shipping a PRS overseas

Do you have to pay import/export taxes if you go overseas, purchase a USA made PRS, and then ship it back into the states?

Shouldn't have to pay import duty, if it's a core, it's returning to the country of origin. I haven't actually done the traveling part, but I've bought PRS guitars from Japan. The SE guitars were below the minimum, and the one core (SC-J) was properly marked as "returning to country of origin".
