So I know PRS do these - I don't know who else. But Guthrie mentions at ~2:00 that with self-lubricating nuts the D string in particular can hack away at the slot and end up sounding buzzy. Is this true!?

Has anybody experienced this on their PRS? Do all PRS have self-lubricating nuts? My two do!

Not with PRS, but I had similar issues with a Graphtech trem nut on another guitar.

I'm a big advocate of bone. It's a hard, long-wearing material that sounds great.

I've not had that issue on a PRS. Even on my oldest(almost 20 years) and that guitar's been played a ton.

I think it's a pretty extreme case.
Guthrie plays his modded strat with .010 gauge, he plays all the time, and he's pretty rough on the strings.

But PRS are usually played with gauge 10s, no? I just hope nothing like this happens to mine for at least a decade...!

Well, for what it's worth I recently had to replace my PRS nut because the D string was too low...
I guess that may be an explanation.

I just replaced the nut on a very heavily used ce from 2002 just for the newer material. It was still perfect. Always had 10s on it

Wear and tear on any guitar will vary by player. Lots of people change their nut out every time they have a setup. In fact, if you send a guitar to the PRS PTC for a setup, they will put on a new nut as a matter of course.

Most incredible setups I've ever had, by the way. The guitars come back like they were set up by a rock star's personal tech.

What do you typically get done at a set-up and what is the typical cost?
