See ya studio. now, is it gonna be a '12 or '13 custom 24?

hello,

well, i have tried everything to dig my 10 top studio, but in the end, she is for sale. why in the world do they make this axe with a covered 5708?

no matter, what really quickened my decision to sell...a 2012 custom 24 (uncovered 59/09s). that uncovered 5909 in the bridge is absolutely deadly. can't stop thinking about it. and bonus, to my robert cray-obsessed ears, the custom 24 quacks waay better than the studio.

sooo, should i just pull the trigger and get the '12 custom, or should i wait and give the '13's a shot?

are the new hfs and v bass pups voiced identical to what was in my old ce24? will the 5708's quack and sound as stratty as the 2012 model?

your input is appreciated

Something's wrong with the audio, at least as I'm hearing it here -- it's crackling, sounds like the mic distorted the mic preamp.

But it's pretty easy to hear the differences between the pickups anyway. I always get distracted by audio problems.

AV,
Man I've been saying those exact words for a couple of years now almost. WHY would they EVER put that pickup in the bridge of the Studio??!!!
Sure it's an awesome PAF pickup but it's just WAY underpowered in the Studio next to the NFs.
It may even be the cause of death of the Studio, which is a GREAT guitar as far as I'm concerned. I see SO many people posting or saying what you said. "I'm selling the Studio to get x PRS". It's often a DGT they're moving to.
I bet that if the Studio would have come out with an uncovered 59/09 in the bridge it would have been a home run. And all the people who say they dislike the looks of a covered bucker with the uncovered NFs would be happy if the Studio sported the 59/09.

Oh well. I've said the Studio needs a different bridge pup (mine has a Duncan Custom Custom) and I've also said that I won't be surprised at all when the Studio is discontinued.. In fact, I'll be surprised if it's part of PRS's 2014 lineup.
Pitty too because the Studio is my favorite American PRS model so far. Glad I got one before it's too late

Yeah YouTube is that way sometimes. No popping or clicking in the source video... just watched it at 720p and no audio issues... but I've watched a few videos on YouTube where the audio is messed up and then the next time it's fine... YouTube isn't the best due to their compression but what else do people use hahaha

As a 10 top Studio owner (Blue Crab... a Maryland'ers must have)... I also have grown frustrated with the 57/08 in the bridge. Struggling with adding a distortion pedal for extra gain on my board, or replacing the pickup with something hotter... say a Tremonti Bridge?

The 5708 bridge in my Studio screams with a Timmy and/or Crunchbox pushing it.

yeah, i hear ya. the 5708 just doesn't push the front-end of my dr.z enough. sure, paired with an rc booster (gain at 4 o'clock), the 5708 sounds sick, but i try to stay away from o/d pedals as much as i can..within reason of course.

i certainly have thought about slipping a 5909 in the bridge. we'll see, as the stock 2012 custom i got to play is still haunting me.
