What is the best way to get that “quack” sound? I’ve experienced it with my CE24 on certain tones through my Boss GT-1000 but are there certain volume, tone, treble or other setting characteristics or picking techniques that consistently allow you to produce it? Would like to get this on a McCarty 594 also but have not had the guitar long enough to experiment with. Thanks in advance for suggestions that work for you.

I'm not that picky, a good original CE with the 5 way rotory does it for me.
I have the same experience, my 98 CE with Dragon2 does this best out of all of my guitars. With some other guitars, no chance. I think it’s a combination of the basic sound of the guitar, Amp with lots of mids and your picking technique.

You need a middle pickup to get real-deal quack. On a Strat, the pickups being attached to a piece of plastic over a cavity, and the bridge pickup angle, seem to contribute to the peculiar quack the guitar has as well. I can't think of any non-Strat style guitars that have it like a Strat does.

I've got no axe to grind on this, I'm not a fan of the bridge pickup on most Strats, and don't own one, but I don't need the quack for what I do.

+1

There’s a reason I have a slew of PRS with middle pickups.

And, perhaps, a reason why there are more of them in the catalog than ever before.
