Some of you computer wizzes may be able to help me out. I don't understand the "Search" box in the upper right. I think I understand what it is supposed to do, but it doesn't seem to work very well. When I (accurately) type in (most) words of a thread I am looking for, the search does not seem to be able to find older threads. Is that just me or does it just not work very well?:confused::confused: Anybody else have that trouble?

Side note: I am NOT going to be surprised if it's just me.

Use fewer words. In fact, use the least words that fit the title. You can make sure a string of words are searched together using quotes. “Weenee world” would guarantee the it wouldn’t find posts with just Weenee or just world. Pretty sure you can use wildcards but I haven’t tested that recently, so no suggestions from me yet.

It does not work very well. You’re not alone. I have the same experience. It cannot find anything with just one single key word (unless it’s an exotic less common word), yet it does allow searching with two key words.

I tried 2 words...………..NADA...….but...…………..

I tried 3 words and it came up first on the list. Thanks for the suggestion.

P.S. I also hear that you are a great guy. :)

Wildcards do work - you need them for things like 513 and 509 (in my experience).

Forum software search functions seem to be quirky. On another board, I've searched for phrases I know are there, and they don't turn up. If I use a shorter phrase, I'll find the exact phrase I'd just searched for. All part of the fun, I guess.

SAME.... A while back, I tried pulling up the "Forum Users Real Names" thread...and used pretty much every combination of those words (from 1 to all 4 words) and was pretty much denied...
Gotta be me!!!

Ha ha, trust me, its.not just you. As lame as it sounds nothing gets me ticked off like trying to get something to work on my computer..

it may or may not be helpful, but try checking the "search titles only" box if you're looking for a string in a title. Or to get more granular, click the "More" button instead of the search submit button for more options.

I'm in the process of updating the forum software to a new major version release, so maybe search functionality has improved.

Thanks, James. That's why I was careful to mention the other forum (different software) - it seems to be a somewhat universal thing.

We have an intraweb site where I work. The search function is...how can I say this nicely...I can't. It's garbage. We have several dedicated pages - time management, career opportunities, etc. You can put the actual title of the page of a specific function in the search box and it won't find it. Won't even recommend it. It's almost like it was written as a prank.

Forum searches are terrible. Go to Google and enter site:forums.prsguitars.com followed by what you're looking for. It gives you full Google search power, but limits the scope to the forum.

At a former place of employment, the Intraweb had search function. In theory. Search box in upper right, like many sites. It didn't work - would return a weird error (like a 404, but not a 404). So I put in a ticket. The response I received from IT? "Yeah, we know it is broken. No, we don't plan to fix it."

Yikes.

But yeah, Forum software across the board (ha ha, pun intended) at various sites I visit tends to have "poor" search results - sometimes it won't return results older than a year or some other seemingly arbitrary timeframe, sometimes it won't catch certain phrases or words, and some, like the one here, will not allow short/common terms, so "509" cannot be searched for easily. The wildcard trick doesn't really work for me, at least. I just tried "509*" in this sub-forum, for example, and I got back pretty well every thread in this sub-forum. "509?" got back the standard error of "The search could not be completed because the search keywords were too short, too long, or too common."
