Alright guys, today I was playing my 2008 SE Standard 22 through my Mesa Boogie Recto-Verb and after about an hour the volume started randomly fluctuating up and down. I was playing a little quieter and it was pretty noticeable.

I plugged in another guitar and it did not have the same problem. I went back to the SE and I could not recreate the problem.

I'm a little worried because my SE has been at my parents house the past couple of years and I haven't played it a lot. I found it with some rust/corrosion on the bridge pickup about a month ago (the one that fluctuated volume) and I cleaned it pretty good. I'm hoping none of that affected the magnets/wiring in the pickup.

Is this a possibility? Everything I found online said that volume fluctuation is an amp issue but the amp worked with another guitar. This seems to be a guitar issue even though I haven't been able to recreate it yet.

Any help is appreciated!

I've had this problem before, but it's always been the amp. Power drop, running on the same circuit as a bunch of other stuff, etc.

Could be a lot of things. I've had rectifier tubes go that way, they cut down/out, then randomly come back on line. If it continues to happen only with that guitar, get some Deoxit contact cleaner, open your back plate up and apply to the switch and pots.

and don't forget to check your cables too. Using pedals? Batteries or wall warts? If batteries, check them too.

If it hasn't been played in a long time it could be the jack. Just plugging it an again may have made the good connection but if not a good electronics cleaning spray will fix it. Be careful not to get it on the finish.

Thanks guys, I'll try some contact cleaner. Hopefully it doesn't happen again. I turned it up pretty loud and played a few songs with my brother (he plays drums) and it didn't seem to fluctuate then. I used to be a process engineer so not being able to recreate a problem to fix it freaks me out a bit haha
