I’m borrowing a mates 2017 Tremonti to see if I can get on with the wide/thin neck (the answer is a definite yes).
I was also wondering if the pickups would be too hot for me. I usually bask in the 57/08 region of pickup output. I was surprised to see that the 57/08 in my Chris Robertson caused the red input indicator on my FM3 to flash whereas the Tremonti didn’t tickle the red at all. As I understand it the Tremonti is about 15k and the 57/08 just under 8k. Can anyone explain this paradox to me.
I quite like the clarity in the bass strings on the Tremonti and wonder if I need to explore hotter pickups a bit more.

I have a tremonti se and don’t have the output of the pups but it’s a 2008 and man, it’s one of my favourite guitars, very versatile

Mine is a 2013. It has SE245 Humbuckers.
Prior the ownership I planned modifications - pickups for example, SD Alpha & Omega or Scarlet & Scourge (the Holcomb signature sets).
But I had it on my amp (100W) and my very expensive cab [deepending on the exact type of the EVM-10M (Series II with 200W, or without further naming 300W) the cab takes 200 or 250W, because the other speaker has 250W.], which provides clarity in sound.
And the SE245 were - sursprise - fully satisfying.

If you are afraid for too much output, @TonyG, which would wonder me, roll down volume and tone on the guitar a little bit (8-9).

So true, but I’m one of those for which the volume and tone knobs are there for aesthetics only😂
I really like the sound of the pickups, moreso than the ones in my Santana, which I’ve swapped out. I’m just surprised that the “hotter” Tremonti pickup didn’t drive the input of the FM3 as much as the “lower output” 57/08.

🤣 And you annoy guitar makers, because you deliberately ignore toys of joy, which they installed on guitars.

Your observation could be a reason of different scales of both guitars and differing positions of pickups.

Good point, maybe. Thought scale length would affect tone but not output. That may explain the clarity I’m hearing on the lower strings.

Output has several reasons.
Did you measure the inductance of the pickups?
And DC resistance is the false figure.
If not, then it's your subjective observation by your ears.
The pickup height could be a reason.
Low output pickups have the reputation of clarity and string separation, whilst high output pickups compress.

I’ve not measured the inductance, the guitar is on loan and I don’t want to mess about. I’m advised they are the originals. If (when 😉) I do a deal on the guitar I’ll have a look.

Not subjective. The input meter on my FM3 shows the 57/08 to tickle the red (indicating it’s hotter) whereas the Tremonti doesn’t

57/08 is further away from strings by a touch

Weird, I’m hearing the opposite. That is completely subjective, and from that subjective view, I’m liking what I hear.

I wish I’d been able to get a Tremonti in something other than the charcoal burst, but it was such a great deal, I jumped on it anyway. Love this burst. Congrats!

Thanks. Yes when I opened the case I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a charcoal burst, but far prefer this look.
