hi I have an SE Standard that does not have the Paul Reed signature or the prs logo on the headstock. Is this a Chinese knock off or is it an older model? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Ben, welcome. Apologies for the rabble here, they’ve been at the Xmas Sherry.

If the headstock looks like this, you’re all good -

Mine was made by PT.Wildwood, but they were also made by (WMIC) World Music Instrument Corp., before production moved to Cort in Indonesia.

And in answer to your question, it’s a great platform for mods. Mine now has locking tuners, core PRS nut, pickups wound by our own @Fullmoon 1971 and raw brass bridge posts.

A couple cosmetic changes too, a PRS Signature club truss rod cover from @veinbuster ebony tuner buttons and Amber lampshades.

Here’s mine and it makes a worthy stablemate for my Santana.

The OP hasn't even been back on the forum since shortly after joining. At least he/she was on the site for a half hour.

I think it's pretty normal for someone who's not heavily involved to post and then come back at some point later to look for answers. It's not like it's been a month.

The Paul Reed Smith signature didn't start to appear on SEs until sometime in the last decade or so. PRS as a company used to use the signature only for US-made guitars. As they became more and more dependent on SE sales, the signature started to appear and become more like on the US models. Now the signature is very prominent and the "SE" is minimized. There's been a slow progression towards that for a long time.

To be exact, the signature appears on SE as of the introduction of production line of 2017, actually the first guitars had been shipped to the dealers by end of September 2016. My SE Mark Holcomb came with 2017 specs and was handed over to me in October 2016.

But this thread is typically for our times: It could be solved by the thread opener him-/her-/itself, if proper selectors would have been used in average search engines.
