Hi All,

I seems as if the SE Santana model corresponds to what I am looking for.

As I was browsing the net, I bumped into - what seems to be - rare models such as:

I discovered these guitars to my great surprise as very few dealers seem to sell them and as the PRS site does not advertise the SE Santana Signature models.

Can anybody tell me more about these signature models? Can I find or order other colors? Is all the rest identical to the regular SE Santanas?

Thanks

Hi Corey and thanks for your reply,

I had of course seen the SE Santana page http://www.prsguitars.com/sesantana/ but I'm not referring to these colors which come only in standard white/yellow or red. I'm referring to other colors such as the green and blue which I spoted on this British site. But you probably also replied ("a run that a specific dealer requests from PRS").

If any of you know of other colors out there/other specific dealer's request? I'd love to see them. In my book a violet or purple would be awesome...

You are welcome.
That green color was offered in 2013 as a stock color that year.
They seem to change colors every year as they do not offer my orange on this year.

This is how it goes: I started playing guitar about 15 years ago and was fortunate enough to purchase a 1991 Gibson ES335 from a friend. I played for a few years and then dropped playing for many years.

I played at a low intermediate level, at the best. But, I had fun ;-)

I pulled out my guitar from the cellar the other day and really enjoyed it and decided that I would start again.

As I grow older I think I'm paying more attention to details and sound. It's not just about the combination of any guitar with any amp...

Although I'm having fun with the Gibson, it seems like the PRS are not only beautiful but also easier to play with. In a word, although I'm sure the Gibson ES 335 is still a very good guitar, the PRS seem better engineered, more modern. Perhaps I'm just trying to pursuade myself that I'm doing well to buy another guitar ;-) And if I do so, most likely, that will be a PRS SE Santana (yellow or, if ever I miraculously find another color I like and don't know about yet).

While I'm at it, I may also buy a new amp; small and for home use. Tube, not tube? any recommandations?

Thanks,

Regarding amps: go check out the amp subforum in parallel with this one, but you'll see it is PRS-amp flavored, of course.

I like tube amps, but some of the solid state amps with modeling modes are getting pretty good, and are affordable.

Any of the smaller Fender tube amps might be a good place to start, or something from Orange. Naturally, it really depends on your budget - you can spend a few hundred or a few thousand on amps in the 5 to 30W range.

Best idea might be to go your your local guitar/music store to hear a few, playing a PRS (your PRS, preferably, after you buy it!). You might find something you like/hate about a particular model.

Some of the offshore dealers seem able to order SE's in colors that are not in the standard catalog, same guitar different finish. Oh and EricS if you decide you want that SE Santana, I'll buy it to trade for your Gib ES335, straight up huh?

`I recently got a brand new Santana SE in Santana yellow flame and really dig it. I don't know if I will eventually put new pickups in it or not, but I like Gibson 57 Classics and Classic Plus bridge pickups. Not sure how they'd be in this. Actually Burstbucker Pro's might be just the thing for this. Have you ever tried them? They are brighter to my ear, as well as the Gibson 490/498 set in my '12 SG Standard.

I kind of like the more mellow tone for variety though. Cranked up they sound different, of course.

Then the amp comes in to the equation. I have a Fender Deluxe Reverb RI that has the most beautiful cleans at moderate or low volume and breaks up nicely when cranked up. I have a Marshall with good cleans. It seems like you have to have a very decent "clean" sounding amp as a building block to lay the gain and overdrive onto. My Marshall has Ultra high gain as well, which is cool, but there is no easy way to make an amp that doesn't have a real good clean, have it when it doesn't in the first place. I find that some of my guitars need that really good clean sound in order to sound "right" to my ear.
