I was going through my random breakfast thoughts and this one came through: What if PRS ultimately decided that the S2 line would consist of overseas crafted guitars with core PUs, electronics, bridge, nut, and tuners. Would that sell? Obviously the current S2 line is very popular and gets a USA made guitar into some hands that would likely not get a core. But, what if the S2.5 was announced?

Do you mean SE Plus? If you improved the S2 it would just be full USA made parts without any import aspects to it.

Yes, SE plus would be a better label for it. I only labeled it S2.5 because my breakfast thoughts usually don’t make it to the internet. Come over for breakfast next time so I can run these ideas through you! I can pour a mean bowl of cereal.

The bolt-ons sort of bridge the gap between S2 and core already. Some key core-level appointments like pickups, electronics, nut etc. but with more simple body carves and other cost-saving specs. The CE's, SS's and Fiores all sit somewhere in and around that 2-2.5k price point as well which nicely splits the difference between S2 and Core.

Exact opposite of the S2. Definitely an SE Plus instead.

I’ve updated the thread to reflect the actual point of the post. The original premise was to gather opinions on whether a SE Plus would have been received as well as the S2 line if it were released instead of the S2 line as a bridge between the SE line and core offerings.

In this case yes. The S2 line doesn't really offer anything appealing. It's just sort of blah with the high price of US made guitars that use foreign parts. A Korean made SE that has the good electronics, locking tuners, and US hardware would be great because a lot of people just do that to their SE anyway.
