Please forgive me on this one :)

I like the way the SE McCarty looks better, but like the way the SE DGT sounds better.

Please note that I could live without a Tremolo on ANY guitar :)

If I installed DGT (or any brand) pu's in the McCarty, would it get close to sounding like the DGT?

A 594 with different pickups will sound different, but it won’t necessarily sound like the DGT. It might be close enough for you, but you won’t know until you try. There are a lot of variables involved. I think a big part will be what you are playing through. If you are using a high gain sound on an inexpensive modeler, you probably won’t notice much difference. If you are playing through a Fender Twin set loud and clean, you will notice the subtleties.

What is the Part # for the SE DGT Pickups?

Do I need to change any pots/caps/etc., or will it be just a simple pickup swap?

I don't think PRS sells SE DGT pickups unless you can find someone selling them on Reverb or eBay. There are treble bleeds and resisters on the wiring harness of the DGT which in conjunction with the DGT pickups give it that sound.

Fender: +1
PRS: -1

Regardless, thanks Black Dog!
They don't sell any se pickups. But they sell plenty of core pickups, just not DGT. You don't see Fender selling important pickups either. They sell the originals.

The wiring harness wouldn't be compatible with 594. 3 knobs vs 4. But swapping humbuckers is swapping humbuckers.

Honestly this swap wouldn't make a ton of sense. It's more or less lateral. There's PLENTY of pickups choices out there, including PRS. I'd look at 5708 or 5815LT. Wolfetone would be my outside PRS choice. DR.V neck Marshallhead bridge.

If you really want to buy new G&B pickups. They are owned by KHL and the retail distributor is Artec. You can score those on Amazon or ebay. Won't find the same naming convention but sure you'll find close on their website.

Will I have to change the wiring harness as well if I simply put a different pair of Humbuckers in it?

Regardless, thanks for your truly valued input SinSir!

No but I would swap some parts on a se. A core volume pot taper is worth to me along with better tolerances and feel. I'm a switchcraft guy too. They do sell a whole harness kit for the 594 from PRS and other places. RS guitarworks is a great place too. Awesome vol taper.

What all WOULD you change on a SE McCarty 594 SinSir?

That's a start for sure! With all this seDGT pickup talk. I'd just get a seDGT. Have the guitar and pickups as its meant to sound and the gold top with moons is consistently one of the better se I demo.

That's it for me. I get not having the budget for core. The s2 on the used market is another story. We're talking new se money range. If they have a s2 version and se version. I'm going s2 every time. Probably even watching for a used core. I used to buy a bunch of se. Now I've learned buying anyhing besides what I really want puts me further away from I want. So I wait, budget and pounce if the time is right when the right one comes along. There's always more guitars...

Last question..........................TODAY! :)

What's a Thinline S2 McCarty 594 (how is it different than the S2 McCarty 594/better/worse?

Maybe that's 4 questions :)

Thinline 594 ROCKS! The body is thinner, no maple cap, toggle placement, and the neck carve is WideThin vs Pattern Vintage. Out of the 594 that's the one I'd personally get. If I can ever talk myself into selling my SG, a 594T will replace it. For sound think Les Paul vs SG.

Although that s2 10th 594DC makes a strong case to come home with me. Soooo close a couple times now.
