Good evening. First post on the forum so please be kind.

Recently bought a secondhand SE custom 22. When guitar arrived all electrics worked OK. However just today the neck pickup stopped working when in humbucking mode ie. tone pot down & no output when 3 way switch in forward position. However when the tone pot was raised to coil split it became active again and 3 way switch worked as it should.

Any ideas please before I delve into the innards or take it to a repair shop.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Dave

I had lost the neck pup on an S2 similar to your situation and a little deoxit spray on the connections and pots fixrd it....recommend by a tech friend fixed it...you might wanna have it looked at mine was a simple fix...enjoy the new axe!!

Good advice Russ, but I’m a believer that lubing, spraying, painting a bad part just pushes the problem forward so it (the part) can fail at the most inconvenient time. OP if you have someone look at it replace the bad part even if a spraying clears it up. You’ll be rewarded in the long run and have a better part than the junk that comes with those. Good luck in your new rig.

Thanks both for your helpful advice. Next stop is the repair shop and let them deal with the problem. As said, spray might work in the short term but if its a component that has failed then best left to the professionals. At least they will know how to diagnose the problem.

Thanks again, Dave

Dave it could also be a bad solder connection in which case drop it off....will be an easy fix....

Update on problem.

Contacted repairer yesterday, dropped guitar off at his house this morning at 11:00am and had it back repaired and working at 3:00pm. Great service at a very reasonable price. Problem was a faulty pickup so once diagnosed, he swapped in a replacement he fortunately had in his workshop.

Thanks again for all the comments and advice. Dave
