Hi all I just got my new se custom 24 30th anniversary model, my question is it has a wide thin neck like my older se custom 24 but the new neck on the 30th seems chunkier? could just be my imagination.has anyone heard of anything like this?

It may be your imagination unless you can measure each of them side by side. I have a SE Custom 24 30th Anniversary which, neck-wise, feels like the 2013 SE Custom 24 I just sold, so I can't physically make that comparison. But according to the Neck Profiles and Measurements on the PRS Support page, here is a partial quote:

WIDTH OF THE FRETBOARD AT THE NUT:

  • Pattern, Wide Fat - 1 11/16"
  • Pattern Thin, Wide Thin - 1 11/16" <---
  • Pattern Regular, Regular - 1 21/32"
  • 12 String - 1 47/64"
WIDTH AT THE BODY

  • Pattern, Wide Fat - 2 1/4"
  • Pattern Thin, Wide Thin - 2 1/4" <---
  • Pattern Regular, Regular - 2 1/4"
  • 12 String - 2 19/64"
NECK DEPTH AT THE NUT

  • Pattern, Wide Fat - 27/32"
  • Pattern Thin, Wide Thin - 25/32" <---
  • Pattern Regular, Regular - 27/32"
  • 12 String - 27/32"

So this is what I would go by. :408mt:

thanks for that and how low have you got your action? the neck has to be my imagination, lol

Haven't measured it. It was setup by Sweetwater when I had them put in 59/09 pickups. I would say it's 'Just Right'!

I was at a buddy's house last night. He has a core CU 24 with the 59/09 (just bought it a few weeks ago). Wow! Those puppy's have some real meat to em! I was super impressed. Not quite as vintage sounding as the 85/15s. The next CU I get will have the 59/09s for sure.

+3 ^^^^ What he said. They are outstanding, both high and low, clear as a bell, warm, and with just the right amount of sparkle to them when it counts. And they can do the 'woman' sound ala Clapton and siiiiinnng. Great sustain.
