I am in the market for a new PRS and was needing some expert advise on purchasing either a SE 22 Custom Hollow Body or a S2 22 Custom Hollow Body. If you had a choice what would you buy. If I go with the SE I know I will have to change the electronics and the pups. The S2 I am not sure of. Can someone give me some good advise. Thanks for listening.

Although the SE's are great guitars for the money I'd go for the S2 . Today the Ups guy made the delivery of my 4th S2. Imo they are more than a few notches up from the SE range

I can't attest to the SE, but do own an Egyptian Gold S2 Custom 22 sh. Found it used on ebay, under $1K shipped with PRS hsc. At that price point, S2 vs SE was a no brainer. I own one SE (2014 Custom 24), and several core guits.

If you get the S2, you'll never feel like you should have gotten the SE. If you get the SE, you may wind up feeling like you should have gotten the S2.

I own an S2 Semi Hollow and an SE Semi Hollow Soap Bar. I also own a Core solid body.

I've found the S2 to be a lot more satisfying. The SE is a perfectly capable instrument, but the S2 is an instrument I fell in love with and want to play all the time. The S2 really feels on a par with my Core at heart. It just doesn't look as spectacular. The SE feels a little less PRS and a little more average in the hands. But it's hard for me to say exactly why any of this is because the SE plays perfectly fine.

One area where my S2 is really objectionably better is in the factory cut of the nut. The SE slots came too tight, causing tuning problems. But that's fixable. S2 came setup perfectly.

I'm still seriously considering changing the pickups in the S2. But it isn't because the S2 pickups are bad. It's just that I'm feeling they are average stock pickups in an above average guitar. So weigh into your consideration that while the S2 electronics may be a notch above the SE's, you may end up wanting to upgrade the electronics in either guitar anyway.
