Hello brothers
I would love to own a SC sometimes in the near future
But i prefer the trem over the fixed bridge so i was wondering
Why the SCT met the fate of the DODO, it didn't fare well in sales?
What pups came equipped with originally? I kniw there are some
Floating around but I sure would love to see
A comeback with the 59/57 combo or even the 58/15's
for a more vintage feel.
Anyone support this idea?

not sure why they went buy buy, sales is a major factor. i snagged a used satin finish and did a ptc project with it. i love the way it feels and plays. the original pickups are #6 which are coil spilt on the SCT. I liked the way they sound but most did not and i think this is another issue that lead to its short career on the production line. in the PTC mod I had 59/09 installed. made for a way more aggressive sound which cleans up great with the volume control.

here is the link of my project on the PTC page.

I might sell mine for the right price. It's one of the 100 SCTs built in 2007 with an Indian Rosewood neck and fretboard, quilt 10 Top, and gold hardware. IMHO, it's the most beautiful example from that limited run. PM me if you're interested. :)

She is gorgeous and she'd complement my 513 AP
with IRW very well but alas, no sufficiant funnds at the moment

SCT was my first Rosewood neck guitar , I am one of the few that have no problem with the #6s it came with but they are a pretty hot pickup combo ( 8.5 / 12 ) love the simple controls , plays like a dream
wondering if most single cut players are looking short scale and 4 knob layout ;/

Thinner body than the normal SC too. I really prefer the 4 knob + toggle on upper bout on SC models.

Is there a big difference tonally between the two? how can you describe the sound if you had one or played one before

Any one of the current owner's input is also appreciated

I had an SCT when they were still in production, and have also had a couple of 25.5 SCs, SC58, SC245, Stripped 58, and now a McCarty SC. So FWIW, here's my take on it.

I didn't "get" my SCT. Part of it was the pickups, to be sure. I thought they sounded a little "plinky."

Part of it was that the lower mids didn't have the "oomph" or push, or whatever you want to call it, that my thicker bodied SCs did. In any case, I never quite bonded with it, even though it was a fantastic guitar for feel, and was gorgeous. I just preferred my McCartys at the time, one had a RW neck, one a 'hog neck.

I do think that an SCT with a RW neck and different pickups would have been a different story. And in part I base this on a recent listen to a wonderful NOS Modern Eagle 1 that Northeast Music had (maybe they still have it). I liked the tone of that guitar so much that I almost bought it, but wound up going with that 30th Anniversary PS CU24 instead. That particular ME SCT also had whatever pickups were in the MEs at the time, I think RP (?).

I loved all of my other Singlecut models without reservation.

EDIT: I also think that PRS' newer 5x/yz pickups of all types are an improvement over earlier PRS pickups, and I would love to hear an SCT with a set of the newer pickups.

SCT ( Rosewood neck and #6 pickups ) - A bit easier to play up high , and a different ( more CU22 ) vib with the trem and 25" scale and a really nice split tone.
The neck pickup is nice and vintage sounding the bridge is much hotter but not as hot as a HFS ( I have one I may try in mine soon )

SC-58 ( 57/08 ) This one is new to me great sounding guitar to me its a better ( for me ) Les Paul that still has the PRS flavor :) 4 knob layout is not usually my thing but it does add some options on this guitar.

I had one of the limited SCT RW's and couldn't get along with the #6 pickups in it. Isn't the Tremonti pretty much the same guitar with different pickups? Or is the thickness different?

PRS did do a limited run from one of the Experiences. Brian's still has one - http://briansguitars.com/product/paul-reed-smith-experience-limited-singlecut-trem-bonnie-pink-burst

Have drooled over that one for awhile. At one point i was going to get it until i did the PTC mod on the one I have. Still shocked it is still there.

Tremonti is thicker(like the SC245, SC58, etc...a normal SC). Singlecut Trem is somewhere between a McCarty and SC (I think).

Been a long time, I never owned one or even gave it a chance cause I'm not a trem guy. I'd have to guess it's between a McCarty and an SC tonally?

My SCT has been my #1 for close to 10 years (although I just got a CU22 which may change that, but that's another story). I wasn't crazy about the pickups either and put a set of Suhr Aldrich in and it's a SCREAMER. I've also wondered why this model went away, but as someone else mentioned it's probably sales. Maybe because it's such an in-between design. Many single cut players may prefer something a little more traditional (thicker back, 4 control layout, fixed bridge, shorter scale, toggle on top, etc). I do feel if the pickups were different then the model would have fared better in the market.

Speaking of the Tremonti, I know the model specs are for a pattern thin neck carve. Does anyone know if it would be possible to get that as a different neck carve, perhaps via artist package?

Pretty sure you can only change the wood, not the carve.

I also have an Aldrich in the bridge and a BB1 in the neck. The #6's were a problem for me and many others...
