Schaller S-Locks

Just use the screws from the original strap buttons with the Schaller buttons so you actually have the exact right screw. No enlarging, no nothing.

With the Schaller S locks the strap button and screw are one piece and can't be separated. I still use the original Schaller strap locks on all my guitars.

Oh, you are right, I had those too. Guess one would chase the older version then.

I liked all them but the rattling noise was getting on my nerves so I just went back to standard buttons + rubber stoppers.

If you go with the newer S-locks.....on a core guitar do you need to drill out the hole more or just screw in the self-tapping screws. Any change you can damage the body screwing them in. Or I am just overthinking this!

I found a tread from this forum where it states the screw on the S locks are wider.

Looks like they offer the S-locks in three sizes. M being the most common...which is what I assume most people are using and/or are available in the US. I wonder if the the S(mall) would work better for PRS.

L is 4.5 mm w
M is 4.0 mm
S is 3.5 mm

I have used the new Schalers on all of my core PRS (9 in total) without issue. Remove the stock screws and use the new Schalers. While the screw is a little wider, it does not require any additional drilling. You should go relatively slow and screw them in by hand (Allen wrench) rather than using a drill/driver. None of mine have had any problems.

I use the S-Locks and the screws are a little wider and shorter than the PRS screws, at least on Core models. They do screw in OK, though on some guitars they seem to back out and get loose more easily than I'd like. I still prefer the newer locks for the lack of squeaking compared to the older Schaller straplocks. I would never ever consider using a power driver on them.
