ı wanted to learn about prs single cut 594 guitars , are they weight relieved ?

I hope not, frankly. It's not like PRS to do a Gibson like swiss-cheese cut into a guitar body.

Just to add to this, from what I understand, they choose from their lightest wood stock to keep the weight down. Mine is 8.22 lbs. It is a glorious beast!

Good thing I have a Singlecut Hollowbody II, or this would be an expensive month!

I don't own any Single Cut Electrics at the moment but I would happily add the Semi-Hollow 594 Single-cut.

I am seriously gassing for the Hollowbody 594 but fortunately, the regular Core versions haven't made it to the UK. I do have the Hollowbody ii (double cut with 58/15 LT's) but would love to add the 594 version. I know they do a double-cut 594 Semi-Hollow but that's a bit too similar to my solid 594 to really justify owning. At least a double-cut 594 Hollowbody does offer all the split coil options that my HBii doesn't - plus the individual tone/volume pots as well as the better placement for the 3 way.

Each of my guitars may have some things that cross-over, that are 'similar' enough to be interchangeable but its what they offer that no other guitars I own can do that helps me justify spending that much on a guitar when I already have very expensive guitars. I would find it very difficult to buy a Silver Sky if I already owned a strat OR would feel that I should trade in the Strat to get the Silver Sky. Owning both would not be an option and I would feel that I could get rid of one and replace that with something different enough to expand my tonal palette. As I am not gigging and only have a 'small' apartment (tiny compared to US standards), if its not different enough, then its taking up too much room that I could replace with something that will be different. If I was gigging, I could justify multiples as 1 could be a back-up or swap between each to even out any wear.

That's my situation and what I do to justify any purchase - especially a financially big purchase. I am out of the market right now too having bought my PRS Special in June and bought my HBii back in January so I couldn't buy a Single-cut 594 semi-hollow or any other core PRS for quite some time....

I've been on the hunt for a lighter (sub 8 lbs) solid body SC594. It has NOT been easy. I've only seen one under 8 lbs ( 7 lbs, 13 oz) and I wasn't a fan of the color or top. I'm considering a semi hollow, but am hesitant because the SC will be used for heavier sounds (e.g. Tool, other metal, etc.) and will likely be in drop D and/or drop C. Can anyone with both a semi hollow and a solid SC compare the two? Can the semi hollow handle metal as well as the solid body? There are minimal videos on YouTube.

Ask Zach Myers.

I have a Reclaimed Limited CE24 (which is semi-hollow with the f-hole and all) and play everything from Beatles to Ghost and Periphery (badly) on it. Maybe it has different feedback characteristics at volume, but I never bought into semi-hollows as "airier" or anything. It just functions as weight-relief IMHO.

Anything you can do on the Solid body, you can do on a Semi-hollow - its no different. I have a Semi-Hollow Special 22 and that has no issue with high gain - the Zach Myers (Shinedown) is a Semi-Hollow. If the Solid can handle it, the Semi-hollow will too. The 594 though isn't necessarily the 'hottest' Pick-up for metal - not saying they can't be used but you may want hotter PU's or the right pedal. The Tremonti may be a better guitar as the 594 is more reminiscent of a vintage LP. There is no reason it can't be a drop C metal guitar with hot PU's if you change them but the starting point is more vintage inspired....

Here's another video of a Semi-Hollow 594 in action... Uploaded today and sounds great....

All the high-end Strandberg guitars are semi-hollow, and they are used on some pretty heavy stuff from what I've seen. Semi-Hollow is a perfectly cromulent solution for weight savings regardless of style!

All in the ear of the beholder. Emil Werstler used PRS Hollowbody for pretty extreme metal styles. With the right amp, a chambered, semi hollow or hollow body will do whatever you want. It’s up to you to decide if prefer the sound or not. Ideally, go play a solid and semi hollow through an amp like an Archon or Bogner Uberschall and see how you feel about it. Easier said than done sometimes, but worth taking a couple hour drive if needed to find out.

The pickups in a 594 are very vintage voiced too. So an amp that is capable of higher gain than what you would normally want will probably help in that respect.

They were between 2006-2008. I have a 2007 SC245 weight relieved and it sounds like a dream... and weights like a feather!
