whats a good pickup for hard rock 80s sound for my 08 core sc245. I don't like the 245 pickups at all. The neck is to loud and and way to much bass. The bridge has no volume or punch. I love the way the guitar plays and playing cleans on the neck sounds great. That's only about 5% of what I do though. I looking for more in your face punch. Playing though Marshall DSL 50 half stack

BKP Cold Sweats. Just the right amount of bite and growl, easy pinch harmonics, but also clean up well. They are their version of John Sykes pups. John used Dirty Fingers IIRC.

It's perfectly fine to try other pups, but your description sounds to me like there is something wrong with the bridge pup or wiring. The SC245 pups are covered Mira's and I don't hear too many people saying they won't cut through the mix. If all you are getting is bass, there is something wrong. If it is covered under warranty you should have it looked at. If not, look at the wiring yourself or put a photo up here and we will try to help.

The bridge works, I may have over exaggerated. It seem like a 5-10 db boost when I switch to the bridge. I tryed adjusting heights , tested pots and resistance at the switch. I have to turn the amp down when I switch guitars.

I just now adjusted the bridge up to 2/32" and the neck is level with the pickup ring. It equals it out some and actually sounds better. Strange. I never had a pickup that close and that far away.

Pickup height adjustment...that was going to be my suggestion. :D I'd go thru the guitar, top to bottom, and completely re-set it up.

I've stuck with the stock pickups on my 08 SC245, but long ago I dropped the neck p/u down to ring height, and I raised the bridge p/u and it's pole pieces slightly. I've always been curious how the older unengraved 5708s that I have in a Korina McCarty would sound in the SC245, but not curious enough to disrupt the McCarty.

I installed the Suhr Aldrich in the bridge. It defiantly sounds a little meatier ( is that a word ) and punch, it's very close the the 245 treble just more output . It really balanced out the levels between the bridge and neck and the middle position is a nice blend now. Before the middle position was very neck pickup strong.

I'd get the 57/08 for neck/bridge. I have them in a single cut that I use 50% of the time, super awesome pickups. Also one of my favorites are the 59/09, great for that Def Leppard sound.

That was my feeling on his description of the neck pickup. Sounds like it's way too close to the strings.

I tend to have my neck pups height set even with the ring and the bridge pups fairly close to the strings. That just shows how much more the strings move at the end of the neck vs. the bridge.

Hi, I have a PRS SC245 2008 and I installed a pair of Lollar Imperial pickups. For me it was perfect. The SC245 has a
short scale (Les Paul - 24.75). So the SC245 has more bass naturally. The Lollar EQ chart is very similar to the EQ chart on the 57/08 pickups. Putting it into words, the Lollar Imperial has more treble, with balanced mids and bass.
This gives the SC245 a more vintage sound.
