Hi! I'm new around here. I've been a guitar player for about 30 years and I'm -- hopefully -- about to get my first PRS, a dream come true to me.

The guitar in question is a gorgeous charcoal burst SC 245 1957/2008 I've been offered.

Its bridge, however, has just stricken me as sort of uncommon based on what I've seen on the Web for that specific model. It looks like it's a single piece with black saddles. Could that be a piezo bridge? I wonder if it's legit/factory-installed. It's a little late on this neck of the woods, I'm a little adamant to call or message the owner at this time.

Can you help?

Thank you.

Yuck. I hope the seller will include the originals.
I haven't talked to him about the original saddles, but I don't think he still has them. I wouldn't have touched the bridge unless I was breaking strings like crazy, which I never did. I hope you're yucking the saddles because of their look. I don't like the look of them in that guitar myself. Hope they don't mess with the tone.

I have never had issues with the PRS stoptail. I have the adjustable bridge on my SC250 Artist and S2 Singlecut. I actually prefer the older, non-adjustable stoptail. I have that bridge on my SC245 57/08 and my MC58.

Thanks for your feedback, Mark! Looks like you have a few of them beauties there...

Just wondering why exactly you prefer the old stop piece, as there are no adjustable saddles.

Good news. I texted the seller and he texted me back saying he kept the original piece.

Whew!!

He said he thought the Graph Tech provided for better intonation and offered to send me both. Just a nice, sensible guy.

Thank you guys for your input, and I guess you can welcome me into the family haha

I've waited so long for this. It's gonna happen, and it's a nice first PRS, uh?

Oh, one more thing (please forgive my ignorance)... is the SC245 a McCarty? I didn't think there was a McCarty SC

Congrats!

Not a McCarty - the SC245 1957/2008 was a limited run (in case you didn't know) from Experience PRS a few years back. There are some McCarty SC 594s.

Thanks, Alan!

You mean 245, right? The only 247 I found was a seven-string SE.

So it's not a McCarty, ok. I probably saw a wrong ad or something. But yes, I knew it was a limited run, which makes it an even bigger thrill to get it.

Nope. Well, if you're going to put on 8s, you might need something with individual adjustable saddles.

Absolutely.

Nothing against them 8s, but they're too light. I'll probably stick some 10s on that babe. 11s would be fine too, it's a fast scale

Yes, 245. Just like I said after I edited it!

They're really cool guitars. I think you'll have a blast with it.

Sure thing, man!!

As far as why I prefer the old bridge....it sounds kind of dumb, lol. I like it because for me, they got it right. I use 9s, and the intonation ridge works for me. I also like it because it is "smoother" - it is more comfortable on the heel of my hand when I am playing. It's not terrible, but I can feel the saddles on the adjustable bridge. Given a choice, I'd rather not feel them at all.

Either way you win with the PRS bridge. Everything (IMHO) PRS designs is logical, functional, and "good", lol.
