SANTANA MODEL IN 1982 ?

Just saw Carlos playing his signature model guitar at the US festival filmed in 1982 on AXS TV. I thought PRS started building guitars in 85 ? No question it was a PRS Santana signature model with same headstock & body inlays. He used it along with the Yamaha SG he used back them.

I would wager that it was one of the first two or three that Paul built. I think Howard Leese actually had #1, and it was loaned to Carlos at one point.

PRS started building production guitars in 1985, Paul himself was building guitars way before then.

I like the US Festival Carlos lineup a lot! Great set. Great sound.

Triumph ROCKED the US Festival...Carlos did, too, but Triumph sticks in my mind.

Paul met Carlos in '76, when he was just getting started as a builder.

He finally got Carlos to buy a guitar in '80. According to the PRS book (highly recommended, btw), it was only the third maple topped guitar Paul had made.

It wasn't a "signature" model yet. It's just what Paul was hand building at the time. The Carlos signature model didn't exist until years later when Paul had the manufacturing business rolling.
