I was wondering why the Santana model seems to be not as popular as other models? This is anecdotal from my experience of not seeing the model discussed much around the net.

I find it to be the most aesthetically pleasing design and love the sound and vibe. I'm currently saving up for one and just wanted to hear some thoughts,or see some pictures, from owners on here.

Well, the Santana I and II were much more expensive than the other models back in the day. The Santana I switching was never that popular, probably due to the 'kill' setting. No coil tap sounds might also be a factor for some people. I agree with you that they are an aesthetically pleasing design, and all the ones I have played sound killer.

I'm currently down to two :) a Brazilian and a Collection.

The scale length was awkward for a lot of people according to history on forums.

I suspect it does get as much chatter because it isn't the model someone 'trying' a PRS is likely to pick up first.

I really like the ergonomics of the Santana. Enough to make it the basis for a couple of a Private Stocks.

This is good because I didn't think about these various factors. Priced above certain models and not being a "defacto" PRS model makes sense. 24 frets shorter scale and different headstock I see why it might not be first choice. Maybe that is why I like it so much.

They are awesome guitars, and I agree with you.

Also, since they're kind of a rare find in a store compared to the Custom models, etc., I think that's a big part of it. For the player who wants to try out the actual guitar before buying it (as opposed to placing an online order) the fact that they're a bit unusual to see in stores probably factors in.

My first Core PRS was a KL-33 ( Santana in Korina wood ) yes 24.5" scale 24 frets and a FAT neck killer guitar but it was a bit tight past the 15th fret - easy to play everywhere else !!!
great looking guitar also I will get another someday OR I might do a PS with a 25" scale someday

The one I saw a Brian's the other day was from 1997 and was nothing short of amazing. I always wondered the same thing but I think Les mailed it. There are just not that many around.

I "started again" with an SE Santana, which is a very different beast. But I dig the short scale length and 24 fret thing. I have two Knaggs Keyas, which are 24 frets, 12" radius (which I think is close to the Santana) and just a little longer at 24.75"

Every time I think about adding a Sanata, something else pops up :) I really dig the PS Santana Retro models.

Mine aren't strictly Santana's...

One has weird pickups:

and one has 22 frets

Daddy likes the 3 banger!
TBH I'm not happy with the pickups, there was no chance I could play it before I bought it so it was always going to be a risk.

I have something very cool (well I think it's cool anyway) planned for this one. Some "pre-factory" (and Sergio) inspiration...

Sweet! Can't wait to see it.

That is weird. What are those, minis?

Oh, and just to participate -- my first PRS is a Santana -- SE, but still. I probably will eventually get a core or something. I just need to get rid of some things first (guitars, speakers, junk).

I would like a PS 25" scale Santana with Pattern Thin neck, traditional headstock over the Santana one, and 408 pickups :D
I wonder what that would cost???

I do enjoy my 2012 SE Santana, that was my intro to PRS.

it's interesting I see the SE Santana being quite popular among that range. Thanks for sharing everyone.

been really enjoying mine. I'll use this as excuse to show off my current # 1. It's been my #1 for almost 6 months now, I think this one is getting a ring.
Peruvian mahogany neck, south american mahogany body and Brazilian board with DGT frets and 58/15. Everything is so right about this one. I think Salmon might be my favorite.
