Hi folks,

I was wondering if someone could tell me how their sanding process has gone.
I assume that there's a very thin layer of nitro on these Custom necks and a poly layer underneath it, but I'm not quite so sure
given that from what I understand there's a Cellulose Acetate Butyrate undercoat below the nitro?
Would sanding both of those down be a viable option in order to get a more satin, less sticky feel to the neck?

Thanks for the insight.

3000 grit wet or scotchbrite will do the trick
Thanks for your reply! Is that going to take care of thin nitro layer without messing with the poly/nitro layer too much? Essentially simulating a lot of wear?

yes , take it slow , use **** neck passes. I usually use 3000 wet to break the glaze, you can also use 2000/1500/1000/800 . Check frequently!
After 41 years as a Luthier I try to inflict as little damage to the finish to achieve the desired result. The ideal when complete is to have a flawless satin finish at the nitro layer.l

Most aren’t taking their finish down to the wood, but just “scuffing” the surface to take off the shine and reduce surface drag.
