S2 tremolo arm knob

Just got my 1st PRS, S2 Custom 24. My question is, can the knob on the tremolo arm be removed? I want to cut it down in length some and tap new threads if it screws off like a Strat. I've tried unscrewing by hand, but it doesn't budge.
