S2 Studio - can the pickups be uncovered?

I really liked the sound of the S2 Studio I played but I really didn’t like the way the pickups look - particular the partly covered neck and middle - can those parts be removed so that they look more like the ones in the regular Studio?

I doubt it. And they aren’t the same pickups as NFs in the studio. You do have the ability to make it how you like since it’s just a pickguard change.

Those D Style pickups are unique to that and the older Velas.

Are you buying it to look at, or to play? Personally, I don’t look at the pickups when I play, and that’s what I have guitars for. You might consider a different pickguard. Just make sure you play the guitar, especially with gain on the bridge humbucker. They have a totally unique sound.

I really liked the sound of it but it does look ugly. fwiw I really don’t like the look of the Vela either.

It just sounded so good it got me thinking about one, despite its looks.

I really liked having a (more, if not perfectly) single coil like sound at the neck without the troublesome ergonomics of a S-type guitar (I never really played those much and the switch always gets in the way) . The fact that it felt a little like my DGT to play was a bonus.

What about completely covered instead of partially? My buddy replaced the neck and middle pickups in his s2 Studio with Lollar Firebirds and they sound awesome. Pretty sure they’re a drop-in replacement size wise too!
