Thinking of adding a semi-hallow to my PRS collection.
(S2 Custom 22, since I already have a Mira & Core CU 24)

Can anyone explain tone wise what to expect on one of these from say a standard S2 Custom 22?

Appreciate it

Thanks!

Expand the description and you can jump from guitar to guitar quickly for a/b comparisons.

It doesn't demonstrate an S2 semi hollow, but it does have a Zach Myers, which has a similar acoustic sound. At the end of the video, he demonstrates the ZM with upgraded pickups, which seems more similar to what you get with an S2.

I just got an S2 semi hollow single cut about a week ago. And I also have a core solid body SC250. Pickups and string guage on the two guitars are very different (I use heavier strings but haven't changed the strings of the new s2 yet), so hard for me to say how much of the tonal difference is a result of the body type vs pickup type vs string guage.

Initial impression is that the solid body sounds more compressed. I think I like it better for single note leads and palm-muted chuggas. The semi hollow is more open and vibrant and sounds better on just about anything else. Metal players, get the solid body. The semi hollow s2 seems very alternative and pop rock to me. I'm really really digging the semi hollow. Can't wait to get those heavier strings on it.

I've had my S2 CU22 semi hollow for about 6 months. Compared to similar PRS guitars I've owned, it has lots of chimey mids, good amount of bass, and relaxed highs. A little looser and less "spanky" in the lows than a solid body. The semi hollow aspect is no joke, lots of resonance and will easily feed back with a louder amp - in a good way. And a flutter of the trem really compliments the semi hollow tone well. As you might expect, imagine the sound of a PRS custom, but with a tonal twist reminiscent of a classic semi hollow like a 335. Great guitar for classic rock, pop, blues, jazz - anything that doesn't require a lot of bite. It would be a great addition to your collection!
