Okay, I have kinda posted this within another thread however let me expand a little.

There have been comments about changing the pickups on the S2 SC to help make it a "top Notch" guitar.

If you were me, what kind of Pick ups would you put in the SC? and why?

Thanks

What music are you playing? What do you want out of a pickup? What do you find lacking in the stock ones? High gain/low gain/clean?

There are so many variables that will allow you to choose the right pickups. Not that there is anything inherently "wrong" with the stock S2 pickups, but all I can tell you is that I changed out the pickups in my S2 Mira and I could not be happier with the results. I always think this is one area where you can fine-tune the guitar to your specific needs and get exactly the tone and response you want.

I personally tend to like a pretty hot bridge pickup coupled with a vintage to slightly hotter than vintage neck pickup. In fact, all but one of my two-humbucker guitars follow this layout, with a hot ceramic magnet bridge and an A-2 or A-5 PAF-voiced neck pickup. This works for me into a medium gain amp with minimal effects. I just use a boost and a wah most of the time and I can cover all of the classic/hard rock tones I am looking for.

I play the Blues....The four guys that I 'try' and emulate the most are, Clapton, Billy Gibbons, Gary Moore and Robert Cray.....

So from Clapton, Cray to Gibbons and Moore flavor would be perfect for me........

Thanks so much for your reply....Much appreciated.

That does help to narrow it down some and I'm sure others will have their recommendations. I recently put new pickups in my SE-245 (which is a pretty similar guitar), a Tremonti bridge and Vintage Bass neck, and I can cop pretty much all those tones even without having them tapped. I think it is an incredibly versatile setup. I also think you may want to check out the 59/09 pickups, particularly if you want to stay with PRS pickups. Another great choice would be the DiMarzio 36th Anniversary PAFs to get you into those sounds.

Hey, thanks..Now is a real good time if I want to tune her up a bit if it fits me......
So, I am starting to do my homework......

Thanks so much for you input...Much appreciated.

I absolutely love the 57/08s on a SC style guitar, perfect for the music you like.

So, I guess the 59/09 & 53/10's didn't quite make it?

Reason I mentioned it was because of a post back in 2012 someone mentioned that he like them better than the 57/08

.

The 59/09 is much easier to get but the 57/08 is more suited to a SC.

Although i would use the guitar first, play it lots before thinking about changing anything, especially the 57/08 are only available through PTC so it'll be quite expensive.

The 53/10's probably aren't being mentioned...because unless you happen to have a set, they are not available (new anyway). They have a more "vintage" clear sound in my opinion and probably the best of the 5x/xx series for split coil sounds (although they all work well split). I personally prefer a significantly hotter bridge vs neck pickup for "classic" single cut blues/rock material like you mentioned (much like gball mentioned earlier). I would go with a 57/08 neck and 59/09 bridge.

And you ain't just whistling Dixie,,,Those puppies are expensive, So, I am just going to do as you suggest and just get used to all that my SC has to offer for now and cool my jets..

Anyway, I had a nice recording system up until my imac blew, so I think I will get a mac first and get some recordings going and then go from there......:dancing:
